I believe it was Carbo just before the start of the 2008-09 season. A few months later he was fired,

Well, I read what I expected. Thanks guys for making my day with your priceless comment.
I knew it in advance. Reading most of you like books. Not even trying and I can still.

This is to give power to the coach to get his message through. Lots of millionaire egos in a dressing room who all want the same thing but have a different idea of how to do it.

Four years is too much, but whatever. Not like he's going to last that long.

Way too many people here worried about the well-being of Molson's pocket.

Personally, I don't care about it, but the more it hurts Molson's pockets, the longer MB will wait until he fires him should he find the need to.

What's the over/under on MT's longevity really ? January 2016 ? I'd take under on that...

He's done great this year, but historically players get tired of him pretty quickly. I predict we'll have an disappointing season and playoffs next year, bad start in 2015-2016 and he'll be gone by Christmas.

So ridiculously long contract IMHO, but who cares as long as M. Molson doesn't mind footing the bill when we need him out of here

His remaining year+2 would have been great

Deal is 2 years too long

Well, it was expected but I don't like it. Would have prefered the 2 years that was rumored earlier.

I never liked Therrien’s live and die with his veterans philosophy. A young player makes a mistake, he gets benched or scratched the next game. Terrible management of Eller and Tinordi last season.

I don't know.. but we were in the Conference Finals this year.

Oh right, that was despite having the worst coach in the league and the worst #1 center in the league, the worst captain in the league, and the worst #6 defenseman in the league.

Without those three players or that coach, the season wouldn't have even had to be played. They could have just handed us the Stanley Cup!

This is the biggest non story of the Summer. Come on did you really think he was gonna coach out his last year and not get an extension? Just ask Tortorella how his five years contract protected him from getting the axe.

Length doesn't mean much.. He'll probably be fired within 2 years. DD is for sure the happiest Hab today. Bouillon extension probably imminent too..

I agree. Coach contract length doesn't matter in the slightest. If he was signed for two years, and say we made the second round or Conference Finals again.. he'd just be extended anyway. If we miss the playoffs next year, he may be fired immediately.

However, if we keep making the playoffs with him.. he may make it.

1st place finish, then the Conference Finals.

I mean, me too sometime I'm wondering why he's doing this and that but, in the end, he did a good job. Yes, I'd prefer to see more young gun with more ice time. They say money talk, right? Well, result talk, too.

He's not a jack adam type of coach, thats my opinion, but I don't think he deserve the hate that some give him. Overall, I'd give him a 7.4/10

He does that to his Norris trophy winning dman as well. Hopefully he lets Subban play his game from now on and doesn't try to prove a point when he makes a mistake trying to make things happen.

So will Therrien last 5 years. Doubt it. Without knowing the financials it's hard to say just how much of the organizations money he'll be collecting to sit on the RDS panel.

But I think eventually he will.

Who cares if it's four or one. It's not like the coach is against the cap or something. I don't get some of you people.

Cap hit = $0

Who cares. As long as Molaon is willing to eat that contract if need be it could be a 10 year contract for all I care.

I don't think its wise to offer a 4 year extension to any coach, but its not my money, and it doesn't hit the cap.

As long as Molson gives the green light to fire him without considering his contract status, I don't really care.

We should just get assistants that can do what he's not good at. Not sure the ones we have are doing a great job.

I don't hate Therrien but that's money thrown out of the window.
