Mike Richards Could Be Moved Or Bought Out

http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Eklun...Sunday/1/60627

Mike Richards to NJ, NYI, Chicago or Anaheim?
It is starting to sound more and more like Mike Richards, fresh off the Stanley Cup victory, could be bought out or traded. The Blackhawks are among the teams most interested I am told if a trade were to occur. The Devils, Islanders and Ducks would have interest if he is bought out and Richie were to become a free agent.

The Devils DO need a center for Jagr and Zajac

Isn't Zajac a center?

*Either a first line center or a LW for Jagr and Zajac. Yeah I botched that up. Must be really tired haha. But yeah, we would need someone on the first line. That's why a lot of Devil fans are hoping Lou goes after Stastny. Personally, I also see Henrique playing wing next year if the roster is shaken up accordingly and we get either that first line center or a LW to play with Zajac/Jagr.

Finally Ecklund posts this which now gives us perfect confirmation of the fact that Mike Richards will remain a King.

The guy is like clockwork. I wonder if a universe exists where there is an Ecklund who is actually right all of the time.

I think at 5.75 mil the Kings would be happy to move Richards at that price to LA.
According to his recent play, he's no longer a legit top-6 center, and it would clog up the cap space to get that #2 C that the Hawks sorely need.

...

Anyway, I could see Chicago pursuing him if he's bought out, and could be brought in at a much more reasonable price.

I don't think he will clear waivers. I think several teams would gladly take him for free in the hope that his play rebounds and he can become an elite second line center.

Richards to the Hawks makes 0 sense..... Kings if moving Richards would be looking to clear cap space so they would target young guys on ELC's/cheap contracts. The exact type of contracts the Hawks would be unwilling to give up because they are against the cap as well.

Yeah M.Richards on a line with Kane would be cool.

Hmmm... maybe a couple but near $35 mil left on contract for a guy around 40 points/year the last few years isn't a bargain...

Richards is a decent player but needs a change of scenery and a new team so he can be utilized better.

Why would Mike Richards be moved?Cap?We have no issues that would make or force Lombardi to trade or buy out Richards.lol @ posting Eklund Rumors.

because eventually you will have cap issues. Don't just look at now, look down the road.

M.Richards contract is what? Another 6 seasons @ 5.75?

That is a long, expensive contract for a guy that is already been delegated to the 4th line. Right now, it may not be a pressing issue, but down the road it likely will be, and since this is the last year you can make use of a "free" buyout, Lombardi and the Kings may have to part with Richards.

We could move him at a later date then if that happens, even if we miss out on the free buyout. Him and carter have brought a lot of versatility to the team.

You could argue that with all our long contracts, the 'what have you done for me lately' theme gets overemphasized on this site

Sure, but I think you will have more of an argument for Mike Richards than say Doughty

I don't even think he will be bought out, but I wouldn't be surprised if he is

that is not a for sure thing. He is more valuable to the kings than to other teams. Who is willing to pay 5.7 million for a 3-4th line center has been?

Well somebody was willing to pay Ilya Bryzgalov a nine-year deal for $51 million contract. BTW That so called has been, helped win two cups in three years..

Seriously.

Maybe the Hawks would pursue in a bought out scenario, but I think the Jets or somebody else would make him too expensive.
