How about waiting 10 days before panicking? The window just opened.

Just buy him out and get a younger center who will actually make a difference come crunch time

Just wondering if a scenario like this is even possible as a "loop hole" for any bought out players
.

Richards didn't want to speak with the media. Perhaps they already told him its happening and he just couldn't deal with the media with a fake face.
I hope not!

which young centerman can you think of that fits within the Rangers' cap constraints fits this bill? Also, will the Rangers trade for him? Finally, who's playing the point on the PP this season for the Rangers? He did have 19 points on the PP, not his best showing, but perhaps there was something else wrong with the PP than just Richards (x tail-end of the playoffs), as in when he takes a shot and there is a rebound and an open net, there is not a Ranger there to bang it home, thus increasing Richards' PP assists. I agree that keeping Richards isn't an option; he still needs to be replaced, but the guy sucked yet had three less points than the leading forward point getter in the playoffs through 25 games.

Wasn't it reported yesterday that they would meet with Richards about it today?

I 100% expect it to be announced this afternoon or tomorrow.

Stop making a big deal about this. It will happen between June 17th and June 30th. I guarantee it.

Watch Sather go after Thornton or Spezza to replace Richards. Hope not.

I don't think there's any rush to do it. I'm sure they are having discussions about the what ifs etc. theyre probably coming up with scenarios, 99.9% of which are "We have to buy him out"

It's scary and exciting to see what he does. I think some changes are needed because the Rangers do not begin the season in the Finals. Further, he didn't bring in MSL for just one cup run, which could be dangerous if there wasn't a cap and had he not already traded the most valuable picks for the next couple years.

Finding a younger center who will actually make a difference is not easy. Those are hard to find.

My "sources" now tell me there is a chance that Richards will stay a Ranger.

A .00000000000000000000000000000000017% chance.

I think he's as good as gone. Being part of two teams that made it to the conference finals or better can't be taken away from him, but he does not produce enough for what his cap hit is.

His agent did say that, but he also said that that opinion might be more from his heart than his head.

I know Richie isnt nearly as good as he was in Tampa or Dallas, and we could use that cap space to give our FA's some deserved raises, but how do we replace him.
Yea he ran out of gas in the final 2 series, but he was still a big part of this team.

I'm not advocating keeping him by any means, cap recapture, declining play so on and so forth, I'm just saying we might end up missing him a bit. That being said, he probably needs to be bought out
