Shawn Thornton heading to UFA

@SportsnetSpec: Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli announces he has told Shawn Thornton, "We will not be re-signing him." He'll be a UFA.

Who could sign him?

I am willing to bet there won't be a lineup at his door come July 1st

4th liners are hard to peg because they can literally end up anywhere.

I'm gonna say New Jersey - because reasons.

As a Bruins fan this is bittersweet. Love Thorts but he is getting older and losing it a bit. Great leadership for some young teams that might need to kick some of their players in the ass.

As far as 4th liners go, his name carries some sex appeal to it. Lots of fans think of Shawn Thornton as the "prototypical 4th liner" so I can see him getting a couple hundred thousand more than he should get.

I really think he'll be a Canuck next season. Linden has spoken highly of "the Boston model", named Thornton by name, and hired Boston's Assistant GM.

Thornton to Pittsburgh and Orpik to Boston. Then each sides' fans can backtrack on what they said about the incident this year.

Bittersweet, but it was time. It sucks that his last year in Boston was marred by a couple bad decisions. Hope he catches on with a team even if he isn't an every-day player.

RIP Merlot Line.

Leafs will sign him: (We did draft the guy!)
(He always jumps in on the draw when its an icing, we will make him actually take it)

Feels bad man. What a great player he was for us. I thought there was for sure a place for him on the team next year, even if he didn't play every game.

Definitely a Bruin forever. If he signs elsewhere, he should get a deafening standing O when he comes back. He was a massive part of the culture that was created here.

****.

I would laugh if he was signed by PIT and played against BOS often.

Sounds like a perfect Bylsma player. He'll go where Dan goes. Thornton will be on the 4th line and then get 1st line minutes when an injury happens.

Leafs please. And Komarov.

Would love a 4th line that can actually play.
