He should stay in the eastern conference, he can't play his game against the monsters in the western conference anymore.

Well first off, McQuaid is not gone, and Miller might be able to assist in that department a bit, just ask Moen. Also Iggy can handle himself pretty well.

Technically, the Bruins still employ Darth Quaider, though his quad/ankle injury and subsequent surgery have been fairly mysterious. Unless the Bruins trade McQuaid or put him on LTR...he is still on the Bruins active depth chart and will report to training camp.

Don't underestimate Zdeno Chara at 38. He still put up a 40 pt season and was nominated for a Norris...not to mention most players do not want to go near him. As long as Julien FINALLY learns his lesson and re-distributes some of Chara's minutes, he should be effective again. The dude is a fitness maniac and is still healthy.

It will be interesting to see who fills in for Thornton on the 4th line RW this season.

Good luck to Sugar Shawn. One of my faves for sure.

If Jordan Caron is Shawn Thornton's replacement on that 4th line i'm going to fight an old lady.

Bruins will only have Lucic to do the heavy lifting in the fighting department (Heavies) and McQuaid will have to have another fight filled season with the (Middleweights) - Miller is good, but beating up Travis Moen is basically the same thing as beating up Tom Kostopulous.

Bruins will need a younger fighter to replace Thornton if they go that route, which they should.

Mquaid isn't gone.....and....

Iggy, Lucic, Miller, Boychuk, Seidenberg, Soderberg.....all big boys.

The loss of Thorton hurts more in the locker room than anywhere else.

I presume he will stay in the east, as most of the western teams have moved away from the heavyweight fighter model.

They already have Bobby Robbins in Providence.

If he's going to want to stick in the league he's going to have to accept next to nothing.

Uhhh, what? I'm not sure "sex appeal" is the term you intended to use there.

You do know that fighting is not required right?

was there more than 2-3 games in the last 2 years that a fight made a difference in?

lucic and chara have value because they play so many mintues and no one can intimidate them... when they are out there the other guys know they don't need to be intimidated

sometimes goof balls run around challenging lucic and chara... that's a problem because even though chara and lucic could hold their own in the fight... we loose a valuable star for 5-17 mins and the other team loses a player that wouldn't have been on the ice anyhow

that's why thornton was employed... and now why we must make sure some other similar 4th liner will be employed.

but as for team toughness and our rep as being the big bad bruins... no 2 or 3 or 4 players can ever do that no matter how tough they are. its a team attitude. maybe its easier when you got guys like thornton and lucic and chara but the b's never stand alone. if you take on one, you take on the entire team. even our softest players join every scrum

this is a team effort and we will continue this style as long as we have this management and this coaching and this on ice leadership

I'd take him on the Sabres to replace Scott.

I don't think Murray is looking for heavyweights anymore.. i believe his philosophy is team toughness throughout the lineup.

That being said I doubt Thornton has any desire to be on a last place team.

We should sign him just to get into boston's head even more than we already are.....imagine lucic lining up against thornton having words, dropping the gloves....hahaha they'd be going mental hearts crushed muhawhawhahaw.

Would love to see them give Bobby a shot at least, just wondering if he would have any impact offensively.

MacTavish is looking to trade for upgrades in EDM. Would like to see Gazdic in a Bruin's jersey!

It's true though....if it is Jordan Caron, I would be pretty bummed.

No, thats what I meant to use (not literally obviously).

If you are going to hire a 4th line enforcer, Sean Thornton is one of the few tough guys who has managed to avoid waivers/being traded overthe last few years. He gets this reputation of being part of "the best 4th line in hockey" and for the most part one of the best enforcers in the league.

Not saying any of this is deserved, or that he is a good player, or brings any real value to a team.

But really fans (not necessarily smart ones) might actually get excited with signing Shawn Thornton... Whereas acquiring (let say) Kevin Westgarth doesn't really have the same level of excitement (or as I was saying, sex appeal).

Gonna be sad to see old Sugar Shawn Thornton in another teams jersey, he was great while in Boston, prototypical 4th line guy, great leadership, but the years are a getting on.

He's going to Edmonton or Calgary. I think Edmonton gets him because they'll offer him the most.

He also comes in with the experience of winning the cup with two different organizations. He's a leader on and off the ice- something most heavy weights can't say.
