Sounds exactly like what Ottawa needs

I think his best fit may be the Oilers. They are lacking in veteran leadership and bottom line depth. You need to play with some heart and not some skill.

Think Detroit might take a look at him? I know he's not european and has fought more in one month than the entire Wings team did in a year, but he might fit.

He will have an easy time finding work IMO. Will fight anyone, good for 5-10 goals, and has 2 Stanley cup rings with 100+ games of playoff experience. If the cost were next to nothing, I'm sure the Bruins would have considered keeping him around as a 13th forward. Realistically he's getting a raise IMO (made $1.1M last year).

This is it in a nutshell. He can actually play without hurting you as a fourth liner. Was a force in the locker room. Also he earned 2 Cup rings and not simply as a passenger.

Completely agree with his worth to a young team that needs to be shown a work ethic and comraderie.

Thornton 3 years ago? Yes

Thornton now? No. Watching him win 1-2 fights all season, and then get his ass kicked most of the other times, isn't worth watching Johan franzen think hes tough and start **** and skate away all season.

BOSTON -- His playing days with the Boston Bruins are now a memory, but Shawn Thornton has earned the right to be mentioned in the same breath as Bobby Orr, Terry O'Reilly, Ray Bourque and Cam Neely.

Ever heard of Milan Lucic?
And Nasty Marchand?
Iginla likely stays.
Don't forget Kevan Miller who is an absolute counter hit crusher.

I have absolutely never heard of a "Nasty Marchand"... that sounds like something I don't want to happen to me in the bedroom.

Bruins fan and you got me laughing.

As for Thornton, going to miss him a lot! Good player, even better person. He was a real part of the Boston community.

I could see him going somewhere like Edmonton, actually. Has some grit and skill left to offer, but I really think he would be good for the younger guys. He is a huge locker room influence. You can see him talking to Marchand on the bench after penalties to calm him down from doing something stupid.

All the best Sugar! He will always be loved in Boston.

One of the funniest things I ever saw was the night he turned to Marchand and told him - " sit down and shut the **** up "!

Author must be on drugs.

True that Thornton will always be held in high esteem here. For many reasons.
But those comparisons are laughable. And I saw them all.

I can somewhat see the Habs offer him a 1yr deal. He would probably get a 2yr deal somewhere like NYI/BUF/EDM/CGY.

The guy is a useless, awful player. Smart move by the Bruins.
