After his performance in the post season I'm not sure why he couldn't negotiate a slightly higher salary tbh. A great deal for the Habs this is!

His performance in the playoffs allowed him to negotiate a better deal. If he hadn't played so well he wouldn't have gotten more than one year. He also got a 33% salary increase over this past season.

He has two years to prove himself now.

Was hoping for a 3-4 year deal as Weise is UFA after his 2 years are up, and I liked his play. Certainly did think he would get more.

My guess is Weise really sees himself as a bit more than a 4th liner and thinks he will get his chance to show that in Montreal. So he agrees to a short term, fairly cheap deal looking for his big contract a couple years from now once he proves his play-offs this year was just a sign of things to come.

I would have given him 3 years for $3.5M total, but a million per year is a good deal for us.

He is a RFA... Bergevin is too smart to go more than 1 million per year. You should not overpay based on a great playoff performance. See Fernando Pisani.

At first I was disappointed of this trade with Diaz. But then he really had a good first impression with the habs only with his speed. Of course he didn't have the lightning speed of Chris Kreider but who does?

It seems that when he plays on either the 3rd or 4th line, his linemates try to match his speed which is crucial in the neutral zone. I realized through out the Rags-Habs playoff that we couldn't match their speed so it was harder to counter-attack. Nevertheless, I don't know if I'm alone in this thinking but the Weise's line was the only one as fast as their opposing line. This is an excellent signing: we got size, speed and skills (seriously, he can control the puck and distribute it). His ceiling is also very intriguing.

Glad they got him signed. I was happy we acquired him from day 1, but did not expect this good of a performance. He's got the size, speed, grit, and character we want.

Hopefully he'll continue to play this well.

Considering some people still can't spell Gorges right (although he's been here since 2007...), I doubt it.

Great deal. This guy looked proud to play in our jersey. The kind of depth guy that helps you get a cup for me!

This might be the first time this board is unified on a topic. This thread can't even rile the professional complainers.

Weise (we need more warriors like Weise).
What a trade!!! Was not a fan of small (+ no grit whatsoever) #6-7 overrated offensive Diaz. Great trade...great!!!!

4th line warrior...yes, but...

He's still so underrated by a few Hab fans since he can play on the 3rd or 2nd (in case of injuries...and I love that!).

Amazing speed (Weise, Bournival, and Subban are our fastest players), underrated shot, nice passing (made some beautiful passes to Bourque for some breakaways during playoffs).

In case of injuries...Weise can do the job:
Galchenyuk - Pleks - Weise
Pacioretty - DD - Weise
Bourque - Eller - Weise
Moen/Prust - Briere/White - Weise

I think you're getting too excited over a guy who came to us fresh because he had been scratched/benched all year. I don't think you're going to see the same Weise over an 82 game schedule.

I didn't say Weise was bad. Just telling the guy who says Weise can fill in on any line to calm down. He can in no way skate in the top 6 and do a good job.

A solid pick up for a minimal amount of cap.

The guy adds size and speed, and isn't afraid to mix it up for his teammates. He's also got some decent hands for a bottom six guy.

Most importantly he wears the Habs jersey with pride, and is happy to be a part of this team. A great foot soldier.

Not sure what to expect from Weise at this point, but the extension is a no brainer based on his play in Montreal.

Hopefully, he can provide that same energy more often than not, because I'm not 100% convinced of it.

We're a team that desperately needs as many PLAYOFF WARRIORS as possible...it's all about the playoffs.

82 games...just get as many pts as possible for home advantage, and if not...make sure you make the playoffs and then the playoff warriors will take over (PK Subban, Price hopefully gets HOT again, Bourque, Weise, etc).

Yup, I am excited about Weise (mostly for playoffs)...been waiting awhile for this kind of super fast/gritty/tall/big enough 3rd-4th liner (who imo can fill in sometimes on the 2nd in case of injuries...he was playing with Eller and Bourque and connected well with Bourque, etc).

Imo, he can be a speedy/gritty spark-plug on most lines...imo.
(for how long? don't know...but imo he can do it here and there and I hope he can be a playoff warrior...again for us).

Go Weise Go!! (definitely improves our depth for our 3rd and 4th lines).
