Oh yes I have. Plenty. None of the rosterbations (from those who want to keep Joe/Patty/Pavs) are realistic or not enough, IMO.

What's your best take on what they should do?

Keep in mind:

The Ducks likely land a 2C (Kesler or Spezza) and probably a #2 dman.
The Blues likely land a 2C (Spezza).
The Kings are just fine, maybe exhausted and ripe for an upset.
The Hawks likely land a 2C.

Then there's the Avs and Wild - younger teams who will get better.

Factor that in when you rosterbate.

Awesome! Can't wait to see what kind of lefty dman Petrecki, Hayes and Goodrow and our non-1st fetch?

Landing those players is all the more reason we need to keep our elite forward corps together. How does trading studs for prospects help? It doesn't. Making our team far worse can't help.

OK, you answered it here (too many threads).

We just disagree about how close this team is to the Cup. That's fair.

God damn that interview was heartbreaking

So pissed at the Sharks right now. Really sadder about Drew leaving than I was about the loss this year. I just can't figure this move out.

This is so unnecessary and I hate it

That interview was really hard to get through

Drew's all class, and I'm gonna miss his honest demeanor and self-deprecating humor more than I'd miss any of our players traded this summer

The purge has begun, and I wanna vomit

This will prove to be the centerpiece of the rebuild DW was talking about.

That's fair. I don't think announcers should be as high up as they are now at SAP. Their original spot was perfect.

It was really cool to stop by say hi to them, have the occasional chat. Made them more accessible. I've been in the 'radio tower' to meet Dan a couple times, it is high as **** up there.

I remember before a playoff game in 2001 where Kipper started I asked Drew what happened to Nabby and he said "It's the flu, or maybe a back injury" and then winked.

After listening to Drew talk with Tolbert yesterday, I have a theory on why he was let go:

He kept emphasizing that the organization wasn't upset at any one specific thing he said or did (although it does sound like somebody in the higher ups was not a fan of his style), and that the reason they gave was more in line with them needing a new messenger.

So what's the new message the Sharks want to get across? The rebuild. We have yet to see exactly what DW means when he says that word, but potentially the Sharks are looking at moving some long-time fan favorites, and going into a period where they will be missing the playoffs in order to develop young players. Drew has repeatedly said that Joe Thornton is not the problem, expounded the teams' talent (although he can be critical of the players for not following the coaches' system), and I think he believes that the team can make minor tweaks and still be a competitor.

I think the Sharks may want a voice that will sell a rebuild, be rah rah about the organization's direction, and help keep butts in the seats if some lean years are coming. Maybe they're under the impression that Drew isn't that guy. It's all purely speculation on my part, but it helps me make some sense of a seemingly arbitrary move.

I just think it was time for Drew to move on. He and Randy are the biggest fan's of the teams because they were there from the start but I think Drew has been letting his fandom come through a lot more lately. Also, they need to move Randy back down so he can stop saying the wrong names.

Being a bit distant geographically, Randy and Drew have been my main media face to the team. I'll miss Drew and his color and thought he was fair on calling out the facts from all angles....

LOL he doesn't know enough about the game...

After listening to the puck daddy interview, I think I know why Drew was let go. Drew focuses too much on individuals. His commentary is always about what an individual has done. It's always about what Joe Thornton just did right or wrong or whoever.

As general Patreaus once said: It's not necessarily about what you do, but rather what you are perceived of doing.

Less of a focus on individuals will help in convincing the fans the Sharks have turned a corner in this vague notion of culture change. What the Sharks want is something similar to what Fox does for the Kings. It's less focus on what individuals are doing and more focus on what the entire team is doing. Fox will actually break down strategies that are in play in a very simple manner.

I thought the Tolbert interview was really interesting too, and I agree with the first part of your theory -- the organization wasn't upset at Drew for any one specific thing, but somebody in the higher ups was not a fan of his style.

But I'm wondering if those "higher ups" were SJS&EE bosses or -- maybe -- local Comcast bosses.

I like Hedican and Brody and Maley, but the whole "in-studio" operation at NBC/Comcast is pure amateur hour.

And I'm thinking Drew's departure could be part of the escalating conflict between local NBC/Comcast bosses and SJS&EE over the crappy TV contract.
