Number One Pick

What would you be willing to part with to make a splash at the Draft and acquire the first overall pick? Not saying Hextall would do it, because he'd most likely have to give up young talent, but I'm curious what Ekblad would be worth to everyone.

It's tough. We would have to move up from 17 I think if we wanted to make the move. Need to get closer to top 5. Still, the price would be steep.

BSchenn+LSchenn+17th overall would be my max offer, and it likely wouldn't be enough.

If Ekblad seemed like being the next Doughty I would try and trade for him. But he doesn't.

Realistically, you would have to try for the 3rd overall from Edmonton. If you manage to get that then you have to couple that with Vinny+2nd rounder probably to move up to grab Ekblad.

Coburn would be gone, Vinny would be gone and we would have Ekblad. Maybe more would be out as well. 17th+Coburn.

It's not happening unless Snider goes full compulsive & needs to steal the spotlight in which we are giving up something far greater than the Schenn's & the 17th pick.

I never implied that it would happen. I know it wouldn't happen. I simply am curious as to what everyone would be willing to part with in order to make it happen, hypothetically.

Idk. I've never once seen him play so I can't really say. I've heard he is a little over-hyped by multiple posters and then some say he is a can't miss prospect.

Let's say he is a can't miss, future franchise player. We still don't have the prospect pool big enough to make the move without creating other holes.

People seem a lot less sure of him than they did of Jones, that's for sure. So we probably shouldn't look to sell the city for him.

People were also more sure of Erik Johnson than Drew Doughty, though, too.

Personally I think Ekblad will be a top 15 guy. A Ryan Suter-lite maybe (Brent Seabrook?). His shot will also give him the added PP dynamic, so there is that as well.

That's an awesome player to have at 18 and cost controlled. And he's a righty which is a big deal these days.

Not sure if you're referring to them and their draft years, because Johnson was drafted in '06, Doughty in '08.

If Ekblad turns into a Seabrook type, I think most teams would be extremely happy with that. I don't understand why people don't think Seabrook isn't a number one defenseman. I get that the Blackhawks have Duncan Keith and he's their number one guy, but I'm sure that there a probably 20 teams around the NHL who wouldn't mind having Seabrook as their number one defenseman (not ragging on you or anything like that, just don't understand why people don't think Seabrook is a number 1 guy).

Ekblad is going to cost, especially if the Flyers want to move up. I've read the two Schenn brothers + the number 17 pick, but Tallon is also wanting a blue chip prospect to be thrown into the mix and you can bet that blue chip prospect from the Flyers would be big Sam. To me, Morin is off limits. Same with Gostisbehere, Hagg and Alt.

Being that the draft is Philly, I imagine we'll be in the Top 5.

You know, because we're the Flyers.

Obviously an important part in this is to take into considerations the needs of florida. They seem pretty set at center with Barkov and Bjugstad at 1-2 for their future. What they could use the most IMO are scoring wingers and Dmen. Here's what I would propose

FLA receives: Wayne Simmonds
PHI receives: First overall 2014

Then flip Coburn, Schenn, 17th overall for Eberle and 3rd overall

Then flip 3rd overall to VAN for 6th overall+garrison

Draft ekblad and one of Dal Colle/Ritchie/virtanen

Hartnell-Giroux-Eberle
****- Lecavalier- Voracek
Read- Couturier- Raffl
Bellemare-Laughton- hall

Garrison- Streit
MacDonald- Schenn
Ekblad- timonen

****= whoever picked at 6th overall OR a free agent pick up like Vrbata lr Moulson if 6th isn't NHL ready

Yes I realize values may be off and this is completely unrealistic but whatever

none of your trades are good because they don't include us getting Ryan O'Reilly...

I realize we would probably be a worse team this season, but a top 4 of Ekblad, Ghost, Morin, and Hagg could look sexy in 3-4 years

Florida would never trade the 1st overall for Simmonds. If the Flyers want the first overall, then they better be willing to part with something like Voracek+17th.

I have faith in Hextall but I'm not sure if the powers that be will be able to hold off the urge of a chance to show off a new shiny toy for everybody to see at the draft.

I'm aware. I'm saying EJ had a lot more hype than Doughty did in their respective draft years.

I was responding to Beef's comparison of Jones and Ekblad's pre-draft hype, and saying hype does not necessarily translate to results. Basically I'm leaving the door open for Ekblad to possibly be better than Jones (though it's not terribly likely).

Uh, where did I say Seabrook wasn't a #1?

In fact, I implied that Seabrook is among the 15 best NHL defenders in the NHL.

I'd agree regarding Ghost and Morin. If they pushed me on Hagg, I'd consider it. I like Alt, but I wouldn't think twice if he marks the difference between us getting Ekblad or not.
