Simon Gagné vs Daniel Brière

Last summer in the offseason, both Simon Gagné and Daniel Brière, were free agents. Daniel Brière was bought out from Philadelphia, while Simon Gagné was still a free agent. Brière 34, there was a reason why Philadelphia bought him out, he wasn't producing at all. While Simon Gagné 33 years old was and still is better than Brière, he's better defensively than Danny. But I don't understand why Bergevin signed Brière instead of Gagné. I would prefer Simon instead. You think Bergevin did the right thing?

Your call.

If Gagne was better than Briere somebody would have signed him the last 12 months.

Useless discussion.

Well they're both pretty bad choices but at least Briere doesnt get a concussion by pouring himself a glass of orange juice in the morning.

If this was 2004 then I'd say Gagne. Seeing how it's 2014, I'll just say that this is a silly thread, and laugh in your general direction.

Ha!

Gagner fell off the map.

He isn't an NHL calibre player anymore.

Brière actually is.

Gagne was an amazing player a short time ago, really surprising he didnt get a sniff this year. Id be fine giving him a camp tryout.

One of my favourite players growing up. Unfortunately his concussion history makes him a poison pill of a contract.

How much of a risky contract can it be if he can't even get one in the first place. Just getting a 1 year/vet minimum can't really be dangerous, especially if he goes off the books while on IR.

It does not surprise me that HF Habs section would prefer a player who got 0 contract offers from every team in the league.

Brière wins by having an accent grave.

Isn't Brière already 37?

EDIT: He will be in October when the season starts.

Clearly the signing of Briere here was a mistake for the club and the player.

Fortunately, since it's quite clear he won't be given a lot of ice time or good linemates, be can be traded.

I'm sure he'll waive just to play somewhere who wants him.

If not, as I understand it, his buyout would be less than a $1M. Either way, it's good for both parties.

To the OPs question, Briere for me, absolutely.
