He might have a role on our 3rd pairing with PP time.

How much are players like that worth when Tom Gilberts are making 900k on the UFA market? Maybe a 4th.

My opinions on Franson have never changed, I hated him since his first game in a leafs uniform and even was bashed for it.

Cody Franson SUCKS!

I'd rather keep my Tim Hortons Card than trade it for Cory Franson.

but, I also believe the Leafs could get solid return for him on the trade market.

Its simply a supply and demand issue. Too many teams out there need defenders, too many want big guys and powerpoint guys, for Franson to not be in demand.

If he gets moved (and I have no idea if that will be the case), I bet Leaf fans will be pleased with the outcome.
Agreed... This is asset control more than anything. Franson had an awful year defensively last year and his value is at an all time low. I think he's much better than he has shown so if they can resign him on a short term deal @ around the $2mil he made last year, I think he can be flipped for something substantial later in the season

I've always wanted him on the Wild. Fits a lot of our needs and his defensive woes don't worry me too much considering the style we play and who he might be paired with.

I think we will probably keep him, he still has time to bounce back from a sub par season and round out his game. His size and his right handed shot make me reluctant to trade him.

I wonder how many times Franson had to wash Dregers car in order for this piece of news to be fabrica....er ... Reported.

Not sure clarkon's problems start with the coach.

Funny enough, I pictured him landing on Minnesota this off-season. Hoping for a 2nd or a useful prospect, I thought of Zucker, considering the depth in your prospect system.

Ive always liked franson. Big physical rhd with a cannon of a shot.
think he would fair better if put in a system that actually worked.

Don't know why, but I have a feeling Franson has yet to hit his stride, and believe his best years are yet to come.

ha. I remember when Leafs fans were jubilant over how they had fleeced the Preds out of both Franson and Lombardi….

They're probably holding out til someone gives in and offers a 5th round pick.

there was never anything wrong with him before though. he wasnt out of pace and he was actually looking like a proper #4, similar to hjarmlasson

...WHAT??...OK, I can understand every fanbase overrates our players a bit, but in no way, shape or form was Cody Franson ever even in the same ballpark as Niklas Hjalmarsson...

...WTF, amigo??...

He is def a 3rd pairing d man with a good shot. Part of problem is, he was played as a 3rd-4th dman. My problem with franson, besides his speed has always been about his contract disputes with management. seems like every year since he has been here, its been an issue.

True. If Nonis publicly stated he had no interest in re-signing Franson, what kind of offers do you think they would receive from the other teams?

While I don't see Clarkson as a perennial 30 goal guy, Carlyle absolutely dropped the ball when using him. Clarkson is at his best when he is driving the net and scoring garbage goals.....Carlyle had him plugging in the corners.

Moral of the story.....Carlyle is a knob.

One hundred percent accurate. I would actually go further and say he needed time on third line with conservative minutes to find his game. He tried way too hard and did nothing on the second line.

I agree.

However, If you look at the shortened season, He showed definite signs of being a 3-4 guy. He just **** the bed hard this year. I think the hold out period and lack of achieving anything in the process demoralized him.

Again..... If you look at the lockout season, there were definite signs. Franson wanted a huge payout after it and got nothing, So he dogged it this year hard. He certainly won't be back with the leafs. Here is a comparison.
GP G A P +- PIM
Hjarlmarrson 46 2 8 10 15 22
Franson 45 4 25 29 4 8

The biggest problem with Cody isnt the amount od mistakes, its the magnitude if them. When he errors its almost always catastrophic.
