I will out right admit ROR is a better player than Couts right now offensively. Defensively they are quite similar as well. The difference though is not Coburn.

I have stated before Coburn for ROR is a good base. He is a top pairing guy who can slot right next to EJ on your top pairing and ROR would slot next to Giroux on the top line LW or second line center. The contract is worth watching because we have seen this get ugly before. There aren't many defenders like Coburn out there that could be traded for I believe, I am not even sure the FLyers are entertaining offers for him.

To be fair ROR has only crossed 60 points once, which was this past season when he played on the top line with elite players.

By the same token, SC topped 30 for the first time this year whereas ROR had 50+ his third year.

I know he is the perfect Flyer and for that it is unrealistic, but I'd trade O'Reilly for Simmonds.

Coburn is rather mediocre as a 1st pairing guy as far as I'm concerned. I'd rather look elsewhere.

Completely uninterested in Couturier.

Yes, because Philly needs more offense... and to give away defense (what the AVS need the most) to acquire it...

hey, you can always win games 10-9.. maybe.

Does the Flyers even have the cap space to sign a guy wanting more than 6+ million?

Not really. We would have to trade two players for ROR e.g. Coburn ($4.5M) + BSchenn ($2.5M). And then our defense would be in rough shape.

Timonen (39 years old) - Streit (36, not a first pairing guy)
Grossmann - MacDonald (Can he even play the right side?)
Schultz - Schenn

To make it work salary wise, the Flyers would first have to move out Vinny to some team. Then we would have to hope a young kid can crack the team during training camp. I have said on the Flyers board I do not think the Flyers are going to be a very strong candidate to come out of the Met division and I actually am not too worried about this years results. Thinking much more into the future with a deal here.

Couturier is closer to 22 than 21, but I get your point.

Don't see a trade to be made between the Avs and Flyers on this one.

If I had to force something, it would center around Simmonds, and I don't think Flyer fans are too eager to give Simmer up.

I would absolutely listen to potential offers on Simmonds if ROR was coming to Philly.

As well as I would.

Love Simmer but ROR is a guy who is more of an all around talent I like.

And it was dumb there too. The Metro is the worst division in hockey if you look at it from top to bottom. Pittsburgh will run away with the division like they always do, but just about every other team could find themselves battling for number two when all is said and done. The Flyers are certainly building with the idea of becoming a cup contender in a couple of years, but that doesn't mean that making the playoffs shouldn't be a goal. Teams don't go from missing the playoffs to winning the cup. They have to learn what it takes to win, and even short playoff runs can help in that regard.

Former cup winner. Former captain. Soundl like an ideal candidate for Sakic and Roy as an add in to the ROR for Coburn package.

It also balances RW and LW depth as well as providing us more lineup flexibility since ROR can play center.

Schenn-Giroux-Voracek
O'Reilly-Couturier-Read

Losing Simmonds would hurt, but that is such a dynamic, balanced, and versatile top six.

O'Reilly and Couturier are comparable defensively, but ROR has at least as much offensive potential and is more developed offensively. Right now, it's a good 1st liner vs great 3rd liner/mediocre 2nd liner in that comparison. That said, I don't think the gap between them is Coburn.
