NHL gm's say Islanders forward Josh Bailey is a trade target. 9th overall in 2008. Under contract thru 2017-18. Would take a lot to get him.

I don't think it would take that much to get him

I have nothing against trading him but if we trade him we better get a better player back either through free agency or trade. His contract could be used to give us a little more capspace for a bigger signing

It should be pointed out I think Dreger is FOS and usually wrong anytime he talks about the Islanders so I fully expect Bailey to be an Islander next season

3.3M cap hit with an escalating salary after this past (cheap) season on his deal. Seems to have settled into about a 35-40 point player per season.

Can't imagine it would take more than a late 2nd/3rd to get him.

2nd + B prospect is my guess.

Contract way too long to trade for him though. Too much of a gamble.

It's always a good day when your teams whipping boy gets thrown into trade rumors.

Aaron Lerner @alerner31 2h
On Bailey: "When you draft a player in the first round and you set expectations high you can get negative"

Aaron Lerner @alerner31 2h
More Bailey: "He's been effective in stretches, if you look at the second half of last year he helped carry the offense"

Aaron Lerner @alerner31 2h
More Bailey: "You forget that he's still 2 years younger than Kyle. If you look at the analytics or his PPG, it's not as bad as you think"

To me this says "Snow is shopping Bailey but asking for too much".

Depends on the fans. A lot of people think of him as a bust because he isn't a top-line player. Some of us consider him a solid third-line player, capable of putting up 35 points while playing against other teams' best lines. I am happy to keep him to play that role, but if he could be moved as part of a package for a top-4 dman/top-6 forward, great.

We're running out of whipping boys pretty quickly, which is a good thing I guess. Bailey is really the last one standing. What are the overly dramatic Isles fans going to do when we've jettisoned him?

I can't see Bails having too much value around the league, don't see anything coming from this. It's Dreger who has ZERO credibility when it comes to anything Isles related, I would take notice if it was Staple who tweeted this.

don't know if the wild have what it would take, or are willing but ill give it a shot.

Zucker + 109th (4th)

for

Bailey + 57th (2nd)

or

Zucker + 79th (3rd) + 139 (5th)

for

Bailey + 35th (2nd)

I look at Bailey as a very inconsistent player that you can hope finds consistency(because there is times where he has like 10 game stretches where he looks like he can be a very good second liner). If I was a GM I would only trade for him if I have faith in my coach getting the best out of his players

For all the complaints about him, Bailey isn't that bad and we'd have to replace him in UFA if we trade him for a pick. We already have one spot to fill with an impact player and I'm not enthusiastic about our chances with replacing Bailey with a better player.

Doesn't matter.

Reality of the situation is he's not that valuable. He'd fetch a 2nd or 3rd rounder... or meh prospect.
