Personally I would've rather he traded down.

funny that he said 1 of the 8 players weren't there, which means 4 of the players selected above Perlini weren't on the list.

We know that one was Fleury (logical guess), I'd say that Fiala was the 2nd and then there were two more. Just wondering who those were?

We're in desperate need to pick up either Barbashev or Cornel tomorrow with our 43rd pick.

My guess is that Buffalo takes Barbashev, so will Cornel last until 43rd? Other centers include Braydon Point, Hawryluk and Chase De Leo who are all short centers.

Barbashev and Cornel are the only big guys besides MacInnis (but MacInnis only has 3rd line upside). Both Barbashev and Cornel have 2C upside. Point and De Leo probably get pushed to wing and Hawryluk is a 3C at best.

No love for Donato or Quenneville? Both have decent size and good upside, though Donato's is probably higher.

Jersey drafted Quenneville at 30.

Any thoughts about Brendan Lemieux? I'm sure there are better guys. DM loves his bloodlines. NHL.com had a video with Brendan and Claude where Claude stated he'd love a western team. Per THN he's slated at #37. Thoughts if we were to get him in the late 2nd or 3rd round?

Yes, he'd be a good selection in the 2nd round

In order
#43: Barbashev, Cornel, Donato, Point, Lemeiux, MacInnis

#58: Lindblom, Hawryluk, Glover, Daugherty, Jacobs

#73: Kase, Baillie, Pollock, Kubel

Exactly...I'd rather go with guys who have top 6 upside...guys like Nyquist, Tartar, Jurco, etc...

We've got a ***** load of 3rd and 4th liners. Let's try for some home runs with all the picks. It's not like in the past we were successful going with the Martinooks of the world. When was the last time a 2nd round or later made a sizeable contribution to the team. It's Yandle, and that was years ago. (You could argue Stone, but his contribution hasn't been super just yet)

We've got to get better at evaluating talent.

Donato? As in Ted Donato? Aren't Al MacInnis and Claude Lemieux's kids in this draft too?

Edit: Ah yeah, i see. They are. Well this should be interesting.

Looks like the Edmonton Oil Kings are becoming DM's new Kitchener.

Oiler fan coming to say congrats on a killer draft. MacInnis, Karlsson, Mayo and Kulda were great value for where you took them. I just wish my team would have had half a clue.

A lot of memorial cup oil kings taken this draft by us. Kulda and mayo. Looks like kulda played with Samuelson pretty regularly with lazar.

I think Dvorak played with domi too?

I like the karlsson pick too. Who better to help him out than oel.

Solid draft in the later rounds. Would have preferred fabri to perlini and maybe a trade up for barbashev but Mcinnis will work.

Yeah, I don't even care we took Perlini at 12 - Karlsson in the 3rd, Mayo in the 5th, Kulda in the 7th?!? Add MacInnis and Dvorak + Bunting - pretty solid talent that might compensate if Perlini doesn't become a top 6 guy for us.

Would to have gotten a couple righties in there, but overall I'm happy. That Montreal trade worked great.

True. But at least Karlsson can play either wing and Mayo gives our now non-existent RHD depth a good shot in the arm.

Outstanding draft!

Six left wings seems excessive, especially when we already have Domi and Lessio in the pool. Whatever though, we got some great quality.

Yeah, I am very happy with the overall draft.

When you think about what we needed most in the first round - a shooter and physicality, really only one player truly fit that bill around the #12 pick, and that was Ritchie. Since we didn't move up or anything like that to acquire him, Perlini was honestly the "safe" choice. I know that is not going to make people any more or less satisfied with the pick, but that was probably the best thing to roll with. In some of the player comparisons, I've seen Jeff Carter 2 or 3 times, NHL Network mentioned Gartner, and some other website had Marian Hossa. That's not a horrible grouping of players to be equated to in some way, be it size, playing style, or other specific attributes.

The fact that we made selections where we picked up players that were very high on some draft services list later (and in some instances, much later) than where they were expected to go really is satisfying. As much as players like Barbashev may have been nice to try and trade up for, I think we finally moved away from targetting a specific type of player to move up for (and then realize after the fact that the player we targetted has a lot more progress to make).

New guy reminds me of Edward Norton, playing a father figure that knows a lot about junior hockey. I like him.

We can always trade in the future. I wouldn't worry to much about it at this time.
