Its just too bad that Toews got the goal in OT.

Filip Forsberg on his fast start offensively:

Last season was an up-and-down season for me, and I tried to use that as motivation this summer as I was getting ready for this year. I think thats been a big key. On the ice, Im trying to make some simpler plays and work hard to keep bringing my best.

Shea Weber on the Predators early success:

Were feeling pretty confident here, but were not going to look ahead either. Weve got some tough games coming up this week. Weve had a good start to the season and we want to sustain that, but we recognize that were going to have to get better as the year goes on too.

James Neal on his facing his former team the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday:

Its going to be weird. Ive been through it before when I was traded from Dallas and then I played there the next time, but this one is a little different. Its a little fresher. Everyone has got to go through this probably at least once in their career. Im excited too though. Things have gone well here with a fresh start, and Id really like to beat my old team.

on paper it looks like this would be a time for our PP to flourish and our PK will be significantly tested...

We've always had trouble with this team. And I imagine they're hopping mad after their last game.

Hockey night......Let's put a beatdown on the Phoenix Coyotes..... I can't deal with name changes, it's forever stuck there that way.

I'll be bringing 3 young ladies to the game tonight--all staff at the office. All technically single but 2 out of 3 boyfriend free. We'll be at pre-skate so any of you single guys might want to come visit. ;-) Look for 3 chicks and an old hen.

Go Preds!

Take this with as many grains of salt as you'd like, but my dad knows a pretty good source (who usually doesn't say much) who said back in the summer that Fisher's injury likely wouldn't keep him out as long as expected. I hate when people throw out rumors like that, but this guy has been right on a lot of things over the years and with Fisher at least being on the ice makes me think it may be possible.

Looks like the stats chart is incorrect. When I saw 20 goals against in 5 games for a 1.4 GAA I was confused

We've allowed 8. The Yotes and their 3.25 GF stat line would look a lot worse if not for that game against Edmonton during which they put up 7, which is exactly why stats right now mean next to nothing (though I do get the point of the chart and have no issues with it at all). One game at a time for 5 or 10 more, and then we'll be able to get some better info out of stats.

Anyway, I hope to be able to watch this one. I'll be at work and I have some homework to complete (I keep finding myself looking forward to graduation, but then realize I have law school next... at least then I can be a ~30 year old in law school instead of undergrad, if that's any better). So far I haven't missed a game, and we haven't lost one in regulation. I may just have to have it up on one of the monitors at work even if I'm barely paying attention.

Wasn't the original prediction that he would be able to return in November at the earliest? We're not too far from that, and he definitely is going to have to get back into game shape. Skating is good, but a leg injury like that is tough.

Ha! looked at Montreal on the stat line on NHL.com (that's what I get for sorting them alphabetically). According to NHL.com it's only 7

we've only really allowed 7 for goals allowed per game average. the 8th is charged to us for the shootout loss and will count in goal differential computations.

Shoot out point doesn't count as goal against for GAA.

That makes sense. You'd either have to count everyone who scored in the shootout on either side or none of them to make it a fair stat.

Also, who is Cokehead? I have my guesses, based on pictures and last names, but which one is it?

a shoot out 'loss' counts as one goal against the team in determining goal differential, which is used as a possible fourth tiebreaker for seeding and playoff spots. that's why when you check the standings you will see our goals for as 12 and goals allowed as 8, despite only 'really' having allowed 7.

Actually you're right. It's 8 on the standings chart, but because of a "goal" awarded for Calgary's shootout win.

7 real goals.

I had completely forgotten about us going to a shootout

Still shaking the rust off I guess.
