Seems every team got better except the Sharks, Kings, and Oilers. In Kings' case, they don't need to get better. For the Oilers, I fully expect them to actually surprise some people. They just have way too much young talent to stay terrible. The Sharks haven't improved, in fact I would say they have gotten worse. There have been few bright in acquistions this year, namely Mini McGinn. Other than him, there is only the resignings of Stalock and Wingels. In terms of getting rid of people, the only question mark is Acolaste. The rest were expected and I'm happy that we have the cap space and we didn't get too bad of a deal for them. Just think that we should trade Thornton and maybe Pavelski to make a create a large shakeup in order to show everyone that they need to play for their jobs. When was the last time we traded away a key player that wasn't WAY past his prime? I know that they can't control Thornton being moved, but I still think Pavelski should be moved. He would get a HUGE return and he really isn't that key in going forward. He won't be a first line forward on this team, he won't be here for more than 6 years. I'm afraid about next year.

The Oilers defense still sucks and all their high draft picks don't like playing in their own end.

I would not say that about Hall or Eberle. They just aren't skilled in their own end. Also Nurse is coming into their lineup most likely.

Oilers send their prospects out (under the watchful eyes of some military guys) to fend for themselves for the night. Working on improving the fortitude of the kids. And on building team orientation.

It's amazing the amount of talent the Oilers have along with the continued disappointment.

Blues take Sobotka to arbitration.

So -- Avs/O'Reilly with "early" arbitration. 20 players select arbitration, and this. == 22 arbitration hearings (max)

Seems like a Sabean'esque over paying of good players for past accomplishments, to be honest. Both finished under 70 pts last year if I'm not mistaken and I think Kane surpassed 30 goals once in his career so far?

I guess if the cap shoots up several million dollars in the near future it won't be so bad

I can't figure out why I thought the new max contract length was seven years now.

They're both players that are productive. They're pretty close to a point-per-game for both the season and the playoffs. Kane's a little more productive but Toews is better defensively.

The cap likely goes up 7% each year over the life of the CBA so it's not going to be that big of a burden on the Hawks. They will probably have to lose Bickell and Sharp but they have the drafting to replace them.
