All this signing, doesn't leave any room what so ever to our talents or pirates. Shouldn't we get trade someone for some pick or suiting 3rd liner instead?

I mean, we've got a bunch of guys that should have some spot to compete for. Domi, Samuelsson, Lessio, Schwarz, Gormley and Miele are guys that may bloom out when getting the chance.
Adding even more bottom 6, is really needless unless its pure upgrading.

Setoguchi, Goc and Johnson is where I'm leaning now.

Gormley should be on the team for sure next year, possibly Murphy as well. Samuelsson needs to stay in Portland next year, he still has parts of his game to work on. Miele is gone, he's a UFA.

Most likely there will be an open spot on wing for one of Domi, Lessio or Rieder to take. There are still a couple open spots in the top 9 and I suspect Maloney will fill one via a free agent and leave the other for one of those three to take in camp.

I'd like to see one of Vrbata, Jussi Jokinen or Milan Michalek signed. If those are out of the question I would start looking at second tier types such as Setoguichi, Penner or Booth. As for grinder/pk types I would look at Brian Boyle or Steve Ott.

Jay McClement
Radim Vrbata
Tomas Vokoun

If we shed some salary through Klinkhammer, then we may pursue another LW.

My thoughts are:

Erat-Hanzal-Vrbata
Korpikoski-Vermette-Boedker
Domi-Gagner-Doan
Lessio-McClement-Crombeen
Chipchura-Szwarz

If we pursue another LW, maybe Mason Raymond? We could slot Korpi on the 4th line and push Lessio or Szwarz into the minors.

If we don't re-sign Vrbata, we could move Erat to the right side (his more natural side) and go after a Jussi Jokinen or higher value LW.

Leave the defense the same. Vokoun could maybe make about 10-20 starts, if needed.

Too many teams will fool themselves into thinking Vrbata is a 35 goal guy for somewhere around 5 million dollars a year. I want no part of that. I don't think he'll be an option unless he totally overplays his hand and gets left out in the cold. Unlikely, given how much time teams have had to talk to him.

I'd steer clear of Vokoun. A 37-year-old goalie coming off an injury who hasn't played an NHL game in over a calendar year.

He'd be cheap, but not substantially different than any other veteran backup.

I actually could see Don taking a flyer on Lindback or Peters.
As far as centers, Moore, Goc, and/or Vitale.
And for winger, I wish it was Kulemin but it will more than likely be Michalek. Kulemin would likely be the perfect winger for Gagner.

No, not Lindback...just awful for Tampa.

let's go with Montoya or Oichocinco, players that have proven to be reliable backups.

Btw, still bitter we didn't select Emerson Etem instead of Visentin.

I didn't say Lindback was my choice, just that I could see Don going for a young goalie that once again failed in Tampa (much like Smith did).

What about taking a look at Dany Heatley? He's long in the tooth but should sign fairly cheap and his stats have been stunted by playing in Trapville USA.

I think the first question for the Coyotes have to answer is whether or not they are a cancer in the clubhouse, we've learned our lesson the hard way, I can't imagine going after another clubhouse malcontent.

I hope we sign Robidas. Guy is pure heart. Tippet has coached him before too right?

I liked the idea of Robidas a couple months ago and brought it up, but after his 2nd broken leg in a year I have no idea if he's even coming back or how effective he'll be if he does. Looked very solid for Anaheim before getting hurt again though, that's for sure.

Hopefully at least one of Vrbata, Hemsky, Michalek, Setoguchi.

And maybe Vitale or Goc

Where is he going to go? As of right now, he's probably the 7th or 8th D. Murphy is going to make it out of camp. He's not going to be stashed away for the sake of saving money or signing someone. Nobody has his skillset, and he has more offense than most think. The gameplan is to develop him into OEL's partner as fast as possible without ruining him. He needs NHL time against NHL competition, while training in NHL caliber facilities with NHL travel.

Summers made the team too, and he's an ideal #7 guy because he can play both the left and the right.

So what then? You'd need to trade Schlemko and/or Stone away.

I'd love to waive Schlemko and sign Robidas.

OEL-Michalek
Yandle-Stone
Gormley-Robidas
Summers

Murphy in the AHL as first call up.

Forgot about the re-injury. Hmmm....

I'm still hoping that Obi-Don can pull another rabbit out of his hat and somehow transform Schlemko into Brad Stuart with 50% salary retention, haha.

Or even Schlemko for Chris Kelly (hopefully they retain something). Then we sign someone like O'Brien or Engelland on the cheap. *edit* Gleason or Murray would be other cheap bottom pairing dmen who add a physical element to the blueline on short/cheap deals

I've seen lots of people talking about adding Ott, and Chris Kelly is only slightly less physical and much more capable. No way we get Ott for any less than Kelly is making, and Boston is probably motivated to move him.

I like Ott. Or I would if he was wearing a Coyotes jersey, anyway. Trading Schlemko for Kelly kills two birds with one stone, though.

We can't add a Left D. We have as many as we can dress.

Vrby's looking doubtful, Hemsky too. Michalek would be a great fit, if too expensive, Seto is probably the guy.

Another 4C candidate is Brodziak, who was bought out by Minn. 6-2, 210 righty....30 yrs old. Has some toughness and decent defensively.

Frankly, I think that line of thinking is garbage. I've seen lots of d play both sides. It's in vogue now for whatever reason, but I'm not sure it makes a huge difference. Obviously some players are going to be more comfortable on one side or the other, but it has never been considered a deal breaker until just recently.

Also, Engelland is a righty.

Tippett is not averse to using D on their offhand - best example is Klesla, though he's also used Schlemko on the right as well. Still, he does seem to have a preference on keeping his D on their strong sides.

This is mostly true.

I'd have liked Engellend before we picked up Crombeen.
