What's the point of this trade? PAP puts up points and Briere is just meh.

Honestly a bit confused right now.

Briere is useless, more or less. But it's for one year. Hopefully Avs will use that extra $4M on non-useless players. Like Stastny.

Going to miss PAP, though.

It would have been better to shop PAP for a 7th rounder if so and replace him in FA than take on Briere.

What the hell just happened? PAP's value was in the gutter.

And we gave up a pick? Joe really needs to work on his negotiating skills.

I haven't watched Danny in a few years but was under the impression that his offensive game had kinda slowed way down.

Can anyone give an honest and non-emotional description of his play the last year or so (take salary out of the equation.) I'd kinda like to know what kind of player we have. Can he play 3rd line...are his defensive instincts tolerable?

Tough for me to judge this trade though. Sounds like it's a win for Roy as he got rid of a player he didn't really care for all that much...but I'm not sure how much (if at all) it will actually affect the team.

Wait, the Avs had to add to Parenteau to get Briere?

typical over-reaction to a breaking news trade just because the avs didn't land whatever pipedreams have been floating around this site. briere isnt perfect but he's clutch in big moments

Why can't we/Roy accept that PAP is a perfectly acceptable 4M/year winger??

Briere is just a tiny, whiny punk at this point.

Blah, I guess it gets that contract off the books a year earlier, and Bri can play the 3rd lince center pushing Mitchell down to the 4th and Cliche to the bench, which is good. As long as he isn't playing wing on the top lines.

Roy and Sakic have done some good moves, but it would be nice if just one wasn't immediately met with complaining on our part.

I'm surprised Briere would even waive to go here. I thought he wanted to be by his kids on the East Coast.

Unless Briere turns his game around this one will be a head scratcher for us.

Not good. Not good at all...

I can't believe Pap didn't command more value then this. Briere is great in the playoffs, add that to the Talbot trade we now have two playoff warriors. I'm noticing a trend, where I think Roy gives up value in order to get veteran playoffs guys. Still I don't like this trade.

Have to think that this move is more about getting rid of Parenteau and less about what we get back.

But still, isn't Montreal trying to dump Gorges? Why couldn't we have gotten him instead?

My prediction?

We compliance buy out Briere.

Think about it. We still have 2 compliance buy-outs left, and now we only have to pay 1 year's worth instead of 2 year's worth.

We'll compliance Danny Briere and use our cap space starting tomorrrow.
