Just the way he talks in his interviews makes me think he is ready for the big club. I think he will be with the big club opening night, even if only for a cup of coffee before playing first line in Springfield.

I have always thought Wennberg would be with the Blue Jackets this year.

One thing I like is how I have been concerned with Reilly not signing with us, but he's been to each development camp since he's been drafted including this year after turning down an ELC. Gives me hope he will sign after this year, unlike what's going on in Chicago with Kevin Hayes.

Kevin Hayes went to Blackhawks prospect camp in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013.

I wouldnt worry.. he just finished his 2nd NCAA season. He will be a top NCAA guy, possible Hobey Baker winner and make all the allstar teams again. Needs to get alot physically stronger. Now if he doesnt sign after next season, then Id worry!!

I love how much flak ive gotten over the past few months for saying how I thought Wennberg would be ready this season. And now everyone is saying the exact same thing.

Can he displace someone from the top-9? Because making the team and playing 8-10 minutes a night is a terrible way to develop a top prospect, IMO.

agreed...he'd have to be good enough to make us move someone out...i'd rather he adapt to Springy first and then we can ease him in if he's truly ready

Thats up to Wennberg and Richards to decide. Wennberg will get his chance to prove himself, whether its at center(ehich i feel he needs to play) and he forces one od Dubinsky or Anisimov to the wing. Or he gets moved to wing like Jenner. The opportunity is there. Its up to him to grab it.

We said the same stuff about Jenner last year. I think Wennberg can do the same, I think it would be pretty easy for him to displace Calvert on line 3 and have both of them bounce around lines and get their fair share of ice time. I'm a big fan

IMO I think he could move to wing for a bit and displace Calvert to the 4th line

Calvert is one of our better players.

If Atkinson is playing like he did in the last half of last year I would sooner bump him down that cut Calvert's minutes. He's too good. Can Wennberg play RW?

I'm with major on this ... I think Calvert is getting close to a breakout year.

Watched part of the day 1 development video for him, found him in drills at the 30 minute mark for awhile, and then at the 39 minute mark again. He's 84 and in Dark Blue. He shows up briefly again at 50 minutes, and that's where I stopped watching. He seemed alright, I guess. Interesting story though! Hope more teams will do this ambassadorship-type thing to help develop young hockey players. Asian countries are a good target, and it'd be cool to see some young British, Australian and other non-typical market players show up.

EDIT watched the second day development video, and they talk about him at ~33 minutes. If you watch him on some of the drills, he won't do exactly what he's supposed to be doing, so you can kind of see the language barrier. I guess young Russian players go through that all the time, though.

I gotta say, I'm both very impressed with, and loving all of Wennberg's comments. He seems like a genuine hardworking, character guy.

Can't wait to see him up here.

So a feisty checking pain in the butt is one of our better players? For his role I think he is excellent but to say he is one of our better players is a bit of a stretch imo.

He is one of our most important, but not one of our best. IMO, you can really play him anywhere. If you need to play him on the 4th line to get Wennberg in the lineup, you do it. If Atkinson isn't getting the job done, you can switch them then.

I pretty much agree but I don't see Cam as a 4th liner. Maybe for a game or two to get his attention, but he does score goals but more importantly I don't think he has the drive, game, attitude, whatever you want to call it to be an effective 4th liner. Calvert on the other hand can be very effective on the 4th line.

Hey, we could always trade Anisimov to make room for Wennberg.

When Calvert scores, the reaction is..."You mean this guy can score too!".

When Atkinson scores, the reaction is... "He finally put one in."

Cam needs to either get same grit in his game that Calvert has (not likely) or start scoring more consistently.

I like both guys alot, and I think expectations should be high for them this year. They are veterans now, time to produce.
