Man our EHT/WC team is going to suck big time next year. All of our top players have went to NHL/AHL.

Whocares though really. Maybe this time around they consider giving our youths some chances, especially now that Erkka is gone.

I don't care about EHT (didn't they end that anyway), the Leafs hardly are a perennial playoff contender, I imagine Kontiola signing with a non-contender as well...we have guys in Florida, Calgary...I'm not too worried.

In the Yle.fi interview he says he's been talking to a few teams, that he needed to release himself from the KHL contract first, and that he's looking for one final chance to win SC so a contender seems a likely destination. Ducks sure could use him this time around with MP22 already out the door. He could be a steal at 1.5 per or so.

Edit: Actually scratch that, he's making 1.7 now and pocketing most of it thanks to Russian taxation. Still, 2-2.5 at most.

Maybe more players that's gonna be drafted that year can have chances at EHT now to raise their stocks as more room and new coach is coming. Or player that has been drafted but not jumped over the pond yet. Like K. Kapanen, maybe player like Puljujärvi at some point while he's still in Finland..

Hoping this as well but all of out quality prospects are in NA already.

As for Kontiola doubt he cares about money at this point. He's been playing professionally for over 10 years. He mentioned that he wants to win a Cup so I think he signs around 1mil.

I agree, money probably won´t be his main motivator. One way deal, and around 1,5ish.

Agree with a short term. He might not need a contender though. Kind of having a feeling he just wants to show what he can do at the highest level. Also, there really aren't that many slots in contending teams for top6 center. After a season or two he will still be at his prime and can cash in or jump to Stanley Cup team if he wants to (that is if makes it). I'm actually guessing he'll pick a team where he most likely will get to play top minutes.

Kontiola is not a top 6 center in a contender. More like a solid 3C with scoring potential, or a borderline 2/3 and a useful insurance. Again, Perreault of ANA/WPG comes to mind.

True, mid6 is what we should call him.

I also guess that he'll choose the team where he has the best chances to get a role in 2nd/3rd line, so that he can prove that he can play in NHL. If he can make get a 1-2 year contract with low salary and he can prove his worthiness, then he can try to get to a contending team next time.

When he was last time in NA he didn't have choice. Blackhawks had his rights so he couldn't negotiate with 97% of the teams. He was nearly 0,5PPG in NHL and nearly 1 PPG in AHL, so he wasn't bad even then. I bet he would've made it in some other organization, but as we all know, you can't choose your organization in NHL until you're UFA.

One organization's crap can be gold for some other. J Jokinen was waste for Carolina but Penguins found him pretty useful, and now Florida thinks he is worth of $4M for many years.

No thank you

I would be fine with Kontiola on a 1 yr deal ,, Allows Hawks not to rush TT
Yep, that's the one ... he scored almost a pppg game in Swiss league last year ... this is probably moot now that Richards has been signed.

EHT ended this year. Finnish and Russian tournaments will remain for 3 years at least, they will play I think 2-3 friendly international games during the other breaks.

Yes, it is happening now. His agent said it is a sure thing that he will be in the NHL. He had a deal of 1,3 million euros, which he had to pay 2/3 for the buyout.

OK so much for him signing for a bargain basement price of 1 or even 2 per. Or if he does, he really really wants to play in the NHL, to the extent that he's willing to pay for it. The buyout gets him 1.2M USD in the red to begin with.

Lehtera's contract is 2 years, 2.75 AAV. That's probably the benchmark for Konna, as well.

Nice, was starting to doubt if he ended up unsigned like Aaltonen did last year.

I figured it might be less as St.Louis seemed to chase after Lehterä for years and paid accordingly. But if there are really 5-6 teams after him maybe the price will get hiked up.

Maybe slightly lesser cap hit, one year deal, but team pays for the contract buyout (signing bonus)?

Idk, I've been terrible assessing market value.

Me neither. Can't remember this cool "free agent frenzy" as Finnish NHL fan in few years.
