2014 NHL Free Agency Frenzy (All signings and trades)

NHL Network for first time will simulcast Sportsnet coverage instead of TSN as 12 year SN deal begins

Not much talent on Sportnet lineup sadly ,, Will miss TSN talking heads

Beware fake twitter accounts too, folks. It's the time of the year where trolls dust off slightly misspelled handles of various media/NHL personalities to have a little fun at your expense.

I wouldn't expect there to be much of a frenzy on the Hawks front.

Ehhh if we had too much frenzy it would mean we sucked last year.

If the Hawks announced 8-year contract extensions for Toews and Kane tomorrow that would be plenty frenzy for me.

Cant wait to complain about the bad cap hits which appear absolutely certain at this point

Love Kane and Toews but the cap hits they seem set to get will be problem for Hawks building a successful roster going forward

And like I said in the Around the NHL thread, don't post anything fake. It'll just be more work for us.

I just want the final numbers. I am ready to meet the challenge of capgeek GM'ing the Hawks to another Cup no matter the cap hits.

I hereby bestow the title Capgeek GM to hisgirlfriday. There, we never have to do anything again. You're stuck with all the work.

Really is going to be sad to see other teams continue to get better as we just sit there and continue to rot and slowly fade away into the darkness

We had a great Frenzy so far: No more Bollig and no more Zus. Huge upgrade there.

Anyone think we can take on a Roy or Richards on a one year deal to plug the 2C spot?

Well the free agency period is more than one day, and move are definitely going to be made.

I don't think Roy is a good choice at all. Richards is a low risk move that could work depending upon the term & salary along with of course his ability to find some of his former greatness.
Perrault ( Anaheim ) is perhaps an even better move ( safe with promise ).

I don't think we do anything today, except maybe signing Kane/Toews/Saad (help?). Stan will see how the signings around the league shake out and then hopefully move someone for cap relief to a team that missed out later in the month.

We are, right now with a full roster, at or over the cap (depending on the 13th forward).

I would take Richards on a 1 year deal, not Roy. I suspect the way he spends his time off the ice has caught up to him because he is declining like a guy in his late 30's.

The problem with not getting Stastny is that the other free agent options are awful. A one year Jokinen type is useless. To get Brad Richards, who was utterly old and terrible in the playoffs, will likely cost $3-$4m for a 3-4 year deal. Having a non-producing player in his mid-30's making $4m would hurt us far worse than whatever cap ramifications we face from a thriving Stastny making $7m, imo. Bottom line, there are no good middle ground options.

Free Agency frenzy for the Hawks will certainly depend on what salaries Bowman can unload in order to go after free agents. This off season could easily determine how long Bowman will keep his job as GM. If he plays his cards right, he could make some good things happen. The question is, which salaries does he unload and how does he fill those holes. The Hawks need to tweak the bottom six, strengthen the defense and possibly acquire a 2nd line center while unloading enough salaries to do so.

It will be fun to watch the other teams in action. Not thinking much is going to be going on with the Hawks though.

Agreed, this offseason is going to shape the future for a long time. I just hope our division doesn't clean up as the rumors suggest they will.
