He said that he needed time to think over Toronto, he probably was going to agree to it sooner or later. I do have a sneaky feeling that Gardiner was the piece coming back and for that I like Gorges even more for blocking the Laffs - besides the enjoyment I get from seeing a player openly deny them. It's funny though that he added Buffalo to his list.

I'll miss Gorges and I also would have liked to keep him for the measly return we got for him even though he was overpaid.

Is there an open invitation to Stubbs' candlelight vigil for Gorges?

Where you see this? Is it in official statement?

By the time the Habs use the 2nd rounder (Minnesota's 2016) Vanek who cost us our 2nd this year will only have 1 year left in Minny. Seems appropriate to get Minny's pick back somehow, I can't wait to see the player Trevor Timmins gets back for Gorges. It's been a long time since the San Jose trade that brought Gorges & Pacioretty in 2007, huge returns there and more to come yet in 2016, Gorges the gift that never stops giving, thanks again Josh for all your loyalty and hard work.

Still a little curious about what the Leafs offered.

Did we adequately replace or improve upon the near ppg top line winger we had?

Gilbert isn't lateral, it's a clear downgrade.

The one who didn't play with us the majority of the season? We made our entire lineup stronger, even if that one particular position is weaker.

Did we ever expect him to stay?

He was a deadline acquisition and not a barometer for the real quality of the team.

No, but we did adequately replaced Michael Ryder from 2 years ago. Now we just need to replace Gionta

Contrary to what was suggested when he signed his deal, Gorges clearly had value despite his supposed "albatross" of a contract.

Two years ago I might have missed him. This is a sign the team is better and is going to be better.

I got tired in the playoffs of hearing and seeing "Puck comes back to Gorges on the point. He dumps it into the corner. Picked up by the Lightning/Bruins/Rangers." That became tiresome and frustrating. Somebody else had to see that.

I also got tired of seeing him pushed off the puck in the corner, behind the net and in front of the net.

Yes, the guy could take rubber to his body. The rest is just not where we want it to be.

We were an average team for most of the season, we got much better with Vanek on our top line. Who are we replacing Vanek with, Parenteau? Gorges with Gilbert? Parenteau is a downgrade and Gilbert is a downgrade as well, the only thing Gilbert has on Gorges is his physicality and the fact that he's right handed.

That would drive me crazy too. It was almost a obsessive compulsive disorder. How about playing hockey.

the same value of host of other players over the years that have been traded for 2nd round picks, trades that people said were overpayments. Pretty good value for what was an obvious cap dump.

Gorges was a steady, serviceable player. However, I'm pleased with the trade. The Habs will have Weaver,a RH shooting shot blocker, for one season at a much lower cost. That will open the door for one or more prospects in 2015-16 (if not sooner). Murray and Bouillon are gone (whew!). The cap situation is much more favorable and the Habs can afford Subban's new contract.

Bruins fans haven't begun to worry about a challenge from the Habs in this upcoming season. They think that because Vanek won't be around to haunt them they'll have smooth sailing. They don't realize that the Habs have strengthened themselves with Parenteau and that Scherbak, Sekac, and De La Rose are on the horizon. They aren't sure they'll have Iginla. While Markov is a year older, so is Chara.

And the fact that he is WAY better in puckmoving, and the fact that he has MUCH bigger reach, and the fact that adding more puckmoving d-men and becoming better at possession means that we don't have to block shots as much 'cause we wll have the puck more often etc.? Yep..aside ALLLLLLLLL of that, it's a downgrade. Come on now. Parenteau a downgrade on Vanek? Well the Vanek of the regular season? Of course. Not counting on Galchenyuk to start rising to the occasions and to Bourque to, hopefully, be the playoffs performer DURING the regular season and maybe to Sekac to impress. I would have added a sniper too....but there's a limit to what you can do.

Besides, as I say EVERY YEAR....this is not the start and end of dealings. We could make deals after tomorrow. We could still sign other players after tomorrow. We can make deals DURING the year and we might even be able to make a deal at the next deadline like we did for Vanek.

Well then true. He had that. Yet....for a team who DESPERATELY has to spend money to reach the cap floor. Or for a team who is DESPERATELY making moves like Toronto. We don't know what the rest of the league thought of it. I know that personnally, I was expecting MORE for Gorges. A 2nd round pick in 2016, not in 2015. A Wild pick. In a still unknown draft year. 2016 will NOT be as good as 2015. So far.
