Far from a bad term. More like a reality based contract.
Well, yeah....fans are maybe just expressing the wish that the terms had been negotiated differently. Speaking for myself, I'd have preferred Camm at more $ for fewer years.

Nobody holds a grudge like a Habs fan...

I think it's fine, Cammy still has a nice touch around the net and the salary cap should be pretty high 4-5 years from now. I wouldn't have minded if the Flames kept him at that price but I can see why he wouldn't want to stick around.

But that's the thing. (And I know you understand this; unsure about some others): if it could have been negotiated differently, it would have been. It's not like Lou (in this case) or any of the other 29 GMs didn't think about, nor ask for, more favorable terms when negotiating with a player.

Anyway, good deal for NJD, IMO.

Nice move for new Jersey. If he's healthy Cammy can be a 30 goal a year guy.

Yikes. Devils were really desperate to get a player.

I bet I've seen Cammy play more than your entire life. It was too much when he signed with the Habs and he was BETTER back then. This is 5 years later.

But Lou is like that, he signs guys a lot at the end of road.

A good deal for the next 2 years, a bad deal in year 3, and absolutely brutal for the last 2 years when the Devils will have an old, soft, one dimensional smurf sniper whose sniping ability will be a thing of the past. Still, overall the deal is not bad but merely mediocre. Surely not comparable to Clarkson.

Watch him all you want. The Devils need goal scoring. Cams had 26 Goals in 63 games last year, really do not see how this is a bad signing. But then again everyone here on HF is a GM

With Cammy and Jagr on his wings, I can definitely see Zajac returning to his 60 point form

A habs fan commenting on Lou's signing tactics. All of your past GM's wish they had the success Lou has had.

I hate the length but thats what it takes in free agency these days.

he should fit in well with Zajac and Jagr. they will dominate possession.

Devils need scoring and they did what they can to address. Typical Devils signing, and I'm hoping for typical devils results.

I don't mean more favorably...I mean differently. In my head, I'm imagining that LL could have signed Cammalleri for more money over fewer years, but instead chose to pursue a lower cap hit in exchange for term...

32 is now the end of the road for players careers. Good to know.

Fair warning to you: Mike Cammalleri is incredibly streaky and tends to show his best only in contract years. By far the best years of his career, '06-'07 and '08-'09, were contract years.

His statline of the games played before the deadline last season:

44 GP, 14 G, 8 A, 22 P

In the games after the deadline:

19 GP, 12 G, 11 A, 23 P

He was completely invisible for 3/4 of the season. Don't be shocked if it happens again.

EDIT:

Another interesting stat line for you. In the entire months of December, January and February he had 3 goals and 4 assists. In three whole months, right in the thick of the season.

Devils fans are quite familiar with streaky scorers. We've seen Clarkson and Ryder disappear for stretches of 30+ games the last two seasons. I don't think anybody is expecting Cammalleri to score 30 goals every year. But if he can score somewhere around 25 goals, I think he'll be well worth it. Goals don't come cheap in this league.

I'm not the biggest fan of Cammalleri but I suspect with Jagr and Zajac they could form a very dangerous possession line capable of finishing . The last year could be a problem but that's life in the new NHL.

Pay this guy or don't improve your team. At least it wasn't an insanely stupid amount like 6.8m or something.
