Defensive stalwart vs semi competent offensive defenseman? Bleh. Then again, the way Weaver played for us, maybe Gilbert had it as bad in Florida, and will bounce back.

We'll have to see. But for now, I'm whining.

I don't get the hate, well, unless it's north of 2M.

One of the most underrated D in the league. I was screaming for us to sign him last year. Dude played top pairing minutes on a ****** florida team and held his own. 2nd pairing for us and he'll likely dominate. We're not paying a fortune either. No reason to not be thrilled with this boys. He can defend as well as gorges but he can move the puck better AND be a threat on the PP.

Be happy.

talent analysis

gilbert was a big, physical force on the blueline for the steel but in college was more noteworthy for his offensive ability. Not afraid to make a play, gilbert has a nice offensive touch for a d-man.

Described as a solid two-way defender because he is defensively responsible but has an offensive upside as well. His willingness to play the body more often made him a force to be reckoned with on the wisconsin blueline.

As a pro, wilkes barre head coach todd richards admired his off ice dedication and his on ice work ethic describing himself as 'a big tom gilbert fan'.
everything i want to hear!!! Cannot wait to see him play.

Depending of the cap hit, it could be a solid signing for the bottom pairing.

edit: I was wrong...

Only hole left now is a top 6 winger....hoping for Iggy but expecting Vrbata or Setoguchi

I was a huge fan of Gorges but big props to Bergevin for his asset management... we get a much better fit (bigger, righthanded, someone to play on the PP) for 1M$ cheaper, on lesser term, and we get a 2nd rd pick of one of the worst franchise in the league along the way?

I'm sold

He doesn't play on the PK at all though.

I assume they think that Subban will take Gorges minutes on the PK ?

I'm going to guess he's coming in for less than 4mil (Gorges) and the term is obviously better. Plays the right side too.

Puck possession coming soon to the Habs with Gilbert replacing Gorges, and Malhotra winning faceoffs.Yeah!
