Buffalo still has Snow's 1st in 2015....

With Dalls trading for Spezza and Nashville trying to add there will be some team on the short end of the stick next year and not make the playoffs. Right now Buffalo is hoping that is STL.

Actually not correct......

Karabacek was MIN pick acquired in the Pomminville trade

For Moulson trade they got 2 2nds--WPG 2014 2nd and MIN 2016 2nd

Min 2016 2nd----> Gorges
WPG 2014 2nd was traded with WAS for their 2nd(Eric Cornel C/RW)+ their 3rd (Brycen Martin LD).

Vanek trade.....

Vanek for Moulson + NYI 15 1st & 2nd
Moulson+McCormick-->Gorges+ Cornel+ Martin

Vanek--->NYI 15 1st & 2nd + Moulson+ McCormick+Michell+ Gorges+ Cornel+ Martin

Pominville+ 2014 4th (send to EDM for Bryz) for Hackett+Larsson+Zadorov+ Karabacek

Made a strong impression on Moulson, who really enjoyed his time in BUF. Always considered that as option to return even after trade to MIN
I think that's a big part of the reason why Moulson is brought back and also players like Gionta were brought in. They know the area and they like it there. They aren't swayed by media "crap on" comments or the lonely once/twice a year drive down the 33 which is the crappiest part of town.

It makes it much easier for young prospects to come into a situation where the elder statesman seem happy to be there and are hard workers. Instead of the brooding Vaneks who can't wait to get out of town.

It's always gotta be sick when you trade your impending UFA for two 2nd round picks only to re-sign him afterwards.

Turned out to be Moulson, Gorges (acquired using MIN 2016 2nd acquired in Moulson deal), Torrey Mitchell, NYI 2015 1st, NYI 2015 2nd, 2014 #44 (Eric Cornel), and 2014 #74 (Brycen Martin).

Oh hey! A poster who has no idea what he's talking about on hfboards! I've noticed this trend a lot round these parts.

Moulson was awesome for Buffalo. Great mentor, played hard every night, and produced decently considering the team he was playing for.

I hope he works out for Buffalo but his visit in Minnesota left a sour taste.

That's good to know. Our boys are sure to get hungry while they're watching the games from the comfort of their living rooms.

Sabres should have signed Vanek back and traded him to the Islanders again

Not by the interview he gave to TSN. He was not very...enthousiastic.

Seems like when they traded him it's cause he wasn't willing to re-sign with them.

He commented today, as he did on day one and again as he exited the team, on how the Pegula family welcomed his family when they came to town. That helped him a lot with feeling comfortable after dealing with being traded and uprooting his family. The Pegulas really do try to treat people in the organization like family. He's not the first guy to have commented on this, many have. The first was probably Regehr, who was wooed by a personal visit (via jet) by Pegula to persuade him to waive his NTC to come here.

The word on that stuff gets around too, so I think it has a positive impact on some players' interest even if they have no history here. Not a massive factor overall, but these things go far with some people, especially family-oriented players. Pegula's money isn't the only advantage he brings to his ownership. He and his family really treat the players well. If we can just turn this rebuild into a quality team, I think the benefits of that could keep things in the right direction for a long time.

Of course, who is to say how many teams if any wanted to go 5x5 with Moulson. Money's always THE factor and we had the space to burn. There's no doubt, though, that he loved everything about being here other than the losing.

I'm a bit leery about how this signing works out in 3-5 years, but that's something for another day. Due to the deadline trades and Ehrhoff buy out, we were an AHL team yesterday. Now, we're back to being the worst NHL team, one that has some respectability to it.

$1m too much is the new normal now I think, we fans just haven't adjusted to the new prices. The term is what concerns me a bit, because I'm not sure he'll better than our alternatives down the line, but that can be dealt with later.

Isn't 5x5 exactly what he wanted from the Islanders before they moved him in the first place?

Kind of ironic he found it in the place he was dumped to in the end.

OT...but here's how the Vanek trade worked out.

Vanek first got us: 2015 1st, 2015 2nd, and Moulson

Moulson and Cody McCormick then got us: 2014 2nd, 2016 2nd, and Torrey Mitchell

We traded the 2016 2nd for Gorges, and flipped the 2014 2nd for a lower 2nd round pick and a 3rd round pick.

So...add it all up...We traded Vanek for:
Islanders 2015 1st and 2nd, Moulson, Gorges, Torrey Mitchell, and 2 draft picks.

Garth Snow traded Vanek for: Collberg and a draft pick.

Thank you Darcy Regier and welcome back MM! Can't wait to see Reinhart feeding him passes for the next 2-3 years
