Bollig too, they might just go 70's on everyone next year.

He's a #5, had 6 goals in 58 games last year so it's not like he's devoid of offence. And brings toughness to our blueline.

Maybe 500K too much, but we need to reach the cap floor anyways. Relax people.
Almost all of those goals came at forward, which he all but refuses to play.

Decent fourth liner if someone can get him to change his mind about that.

At least he's a right hand shot. Not a fan of the contract, but he will fill a need on the blueline.

Doesn't matter what side he's shooting from. The puck doesn't go where he wants it to go very often.

McGrattan - Wolf - Bollig
Kanzig - Engelland

starting lineup for the home opener against Vancouver.

This was the sole purpose of the signing. It makes perfect sense now.

Was expecting 1.5. 2.9's a lot for a guy who should play bottom pairing ES minutes and a tiny bit of PK.

Was listening to Calgary radio and they were all assuming 2.9 total, quite the surprise for everyone, myself included, when it was confirmed 2.9 AAV. Definitely a contender for biggest overpay of the day.

That said, I don't mind it as a Flames fan. Coming into the day I was only hoping for no deals longer than 3 years and so far that has happened. I think we all knew the Flames were going to be overpaying for somebody today, gotta get to the cap floor somehow.

Kind of a brutal contract but not all that surprising after hearing Rishaug report 10 teams were negotiating with him.

Wow.

No doubt about it though, its a horrible contract. That said, we have lots of space and it shouldn't cause an issue.

So the Flames have become the Vityaz Chekov of the NHL?

That's a lot of money for a above average 4th liner, who happens to be a decent #7 to.

Please tell me that's not 2.9 per year and only 2.9 total. If that's per year... wow

All the ex-Penguins are getting massively overpaid.

$10 Burke holds a press conference today and goes into a rant about how the league needs more of these guys.

I love this. Thank god for Brian Burke.

Flames are going to be the nastiest team to play against next season. Sure, "speed & skills" will kill them but they will maul you in the process.

As someone that's watched basically every game of Engelland's at the NHL level, it's like 2 million/per too much. He really struggles to play defense at an NHL level.

Jeff Finger all over again for Burke. He's completely stuck believing his Ducks' cup winning team changed hockey, he ignores advance stats, and his stance towards goons and fighting are outdated. He's a dinosaur.

Flames went from Sutter to Feaster, back to Sutter. Actually, even Sutter tried to put some skill on the bottom lines.
