The worst scoring team in the modern era going with a downgrade in goal and with stay at home D men over puck movers.

I wonder if while Girgensons gets better all those young players in Florida and Edmonton do to. They were the only two teams we finished within like 15 points of.

I think GMTM threw in an extra $125k so he would be at the floor by the time he met with the media

Whatever. Clearly a floor signing.

This guy couldn't crack the Boston top 6. $4 million is high, but whatever - low expectations from an on-ice perspective. Maybe he is good in the locker room.

Hopefully a 7th dman by the end of next season.

I hate the feeling of spending 4 mil on a bottom line defenseman but obviously its only for 1 year and it is only to reach cap floor. Meszaros is just a spot filler this year and will be out the door next year. Think Tim should finish up FA now though. No need to worry about the cap anymore and we still got to offer Ennis and Ruhwedel deals.

Gorges is our Ehrhoff replacement, Mez is our Tallinder replacement. This deal is actually very smart, because it poses no risk while giving us a cap cushion. After Ennis' deal, we'll be able to trade a player out for less salary in return if that's what Murray wants to do.

Mez was a good player but he's quite washed up now. So was Tallinder. He'll have a place in the depth of this team but isn't going to keep anyone who deserves it out of the line-up.

Haha, tank's back on! Mez is horrible, but it's pretty much exactly what they needed. They get to the floor, sign a vet for flexibility and the tank remains fully engaged.

Did you forget the part where Ehrhoff is gone now? Because one of those guys is definitely replacing his minutes.

From last season to this season:
Vanek/Moulson-->Moulson
Ott-->Gionta
Ehrhoff-->Gorges
Tallinder-->Meszaros
Miller-->Neuvirth
um?-->Stewart
McCormick-->McCormick

So, yeah, huge upgrades everywhere. The tank is obviously doomed.

Bottom pairing? I think Weber has that spot on lockdown.

Meszaros really is that bad. This is a tank signing. I believe.

Send a message via Yahoo to Cirris
I get the feeling Meszaros wasn't getting 4 million for 2 years so Murray said "I'll just give you a 4 million 1 year instead" and Meszaros said "Deal".

Then Tim Murray texted Vogl, "cap floor hit, sucka!"

We also add Reinhart (don't doubt it at this point, he's playing). So we add Reinhart and Stewart -- maybe Deslauriers -- to the general team last year. Gionta is an upgrade over Ott, but marginal. Gorges is overall a downgrade on Ehrhoff. The goaltending is a big downgrade. We expect improvement from our young players and more team cohesiveness from the jump than we had last year, but we're still easily one of the worst teams in the league. We were never a lock to finish last and still aren't. Calgary will be brutal as well, though they did upgrade their net.

There's nothing to worry about. A top three pick next year is a definite franchise player. A top 5 pick is very probably a franchise player. A top 10 pick is probably a first liner, maybe franchise player. Calgary is the only stiff competition on paper.

Anyone want to revisit the Stafford vs Meszaros debates from ten years ago?

You know there will be injuries to account for, too. One semi-significant injury to an important player on this team is going to cripple them even further.

TM already said during the presser that if things go well they could resign him or they could move him at the deadline. Mes isn't even done telling all of his family that he's playing in Buffalo and Murray is already two steps ahead.
