Not crazy about this signing, but there is literally no other remaining goalie I would've signed instead.

BTW, it's a 1-yr, $800k contract.

Another tall reclamation project for Burke. I don't see much wrong with this, he should be able to handle a backup role just fine.

Dubnyk's last contract paid $3.5 mil. per year.

I'm good with this.

In Tippett's system every goalie would be fine. Except LOL one.

This feels like LOLbarbara 2.0 to me. I've never been impressed with this guy, and I'm not sure he fits the mold of being a good backup. Greiss was a luxury last year, even though it didn't exactly work out I still felt like we had a shot to win the game when he started the game in relief. With Barbs it was only a question of how close we could keep the game, and that's my initial reaction on this signing.

To be honest, I'm not crazy about this move. Nashville has a good goalie coach in Mitch Korn, and Dubynk's stats were horrendous there. He also had very poor stats when he was playing in the AHL for Hamilton at the end of the year.

I hope he was literally the only goalie left on the market, because I would have preferred just about anyone else. This will be Sean Burke's biggest challenge yet.

Well, for a guy who supposedly had a few backups picked out, Don sure got left at the altar. You can't offer the same opportunity with Smith here I suppose.

Greiss was very unhappy with the amount of starts. Smith Is a net hog. I'm sure other goalies noticed.

For reference, Montoya's deal with Florida is $2.1 million over 2 years.

I would say that has more to do with Tippett though. He's always loved riding his starters for 60+ games a year, going back to his days in Dallas.

Given how poorly Smith was to start the year and Greiss was playing well, it's completely on Tip.

When Rich Korn basically throws his hands up and says Edmonton ruined Dub I'm not going to expect Burke to do much more. I'll hope he can, but I'm not expecting it. I'm guessing DM just didn't want to give out the 2nd year that the other back-ups were getting.

He only played a couple of games with Nashville. Dubnyk, Montoya, Greiss and Johnson are all back ups. I believe only Dubnyk is the only one that was a starter. Not a bad signing.

There are always spare goalies laying around of the backup caliber. If Dubnyk bombs, we'll chase one. I'm not too worried about it.

Who's more screwed - us, or Anaheim, who just signed Jason LaBarbera to back up John Gibson?

Look closely at the picture on the Coyotes facebook page -- Dubynk playing for NAS ... with his EDM helmet. Dude wasn't in NAS long enough to get a pizza delivered.

I'll quote the great Cardinal/Cowboy philosopher/running back Emmitt Smith ...

Two players Edmonton South does not make. We played the Oilers a lot last year ... let's see if DM saw some diamonds mixed in with all the poo poo.
