This is the best bang for your buck deal of the day, not surprised people here aren't happy about it.

My one worry is his speed. He really has slowed down. No risk and still great hands but in the hawks system you have to scoot or else you get really exposed like zus

A few weeks ago I said no thanks to Richards but I've come around thanks to the term and cap hit.

Same here. Time will tell but I'm not super excited about this.

Versteeg+ Rozy have to be on the way out.

Please make that happen. One or both to Buffalo. They need to hit the cap floor.

Great deal

1 yr stopgap allowing TT to adjust in Rockford without pressure

Keep in mind I'm perfectly happy with the contract. I just didn't want him. Lazy, bad defensively, slow. But that was him on the Rangers. Could be a different case on the Hawks. He could get 70 points. Who knows? Unhappy with it now, but that could very well change.

That's a great deal. Exactly who and what I wanted out of this day. Now clear a little space and that'll do it.

"Hate" is too strong a word - and I won't complain about the contract he was given.

However, he obviously slowed down throughout the year, particularly in the playoffs - both in terms of physical speed and mental speed. He also did not show a lot of effort and he is bad defensively.

same here. but seeing the term and years how can you not like this deal?

people saying he is slow...but I think they forgot how slow Handzus was. this is a pretty solid upgrade without a doubt.

At very least he still has a great pass

Put him with guys like Sharp/Hossa who love to shoot and it could be magic

+ They can cover for his defense

Love the signing considering the length and cap hit. I think Richards will do well here

Anyone comparing this to Handzus doesn't have any clue how bad Handzus actually was.

It's a valid concern. He was also playing very sheltered minutes in New York.

We'll have to see how he matches up in the Hawks' loaded top six. Is he still fast enough to be Kane's favorite trailing man? Or will he be setting up Sharp/Hossa?

But even with those concerns, I think it's still worth the risk to have a guy who is capable of playing 2nd line minutes while also putting up 2nd line points.

I'm far from a developmental guru but I wanted TT to get as much NHL action as possible. Doesn't seem like this will be happening now

I think this is the biggest thing.

It takes pressure off of TT and allows him to grow in the AHL or on a wing position at some point this season with the Hawks...it also doesn't bury him or force the Hawks hand to trade them as they would be locked into a #2C for 3-5 years..

He's younger than Hossa and a little over a year older than Sharp.

I was hoping he'd be given a chance too - I wanted his play to dictate where he spent the year.

I can't say I'm that surprised, though.

Did you also see who he was playing with? Imagine this Saad-Richards-Kane
Or Sharp-Richards-Kane

Depends on who gets shipped out, he could get a spot on the wings.

TT might end up on the third line centering Shaw and Bickell. The Hawks actually have a lot of options now that they have a 2nd line C.
