Line Combinations

now that some holes have been filled via free agency, if the Oilers go into the next season with this current line-up, what are the general lines you see the team rolling with?

Hall-RNH-Eberle
Puliot-Draisitl-Perron
Purcell-Arco-Yakupov
Joensuu-Gordon-Hendricks

Shultz-Nikitin
Fayne-Petry
Ference-Marincin

Scrivens
Fasth

I can see Perron and Eberle trading places every now n then
Arco and Draisitl could be shuffled up n down at times too.

Would be interested to see how this would turn out:

Hall - RNH - Pouliot
Perron - Draisaitl - Eberle
Purcell - Gordon - Yakupov
Joensuu - Hendricks - Gazdic

Nikitin - Petry
Marincin - Fayne
Ference - Schultz

Really would like to add another center before doing the lines, but it'll be nice to see what the team will look like mostly.

Hall-RNH-Eberle
Perron-Arco-Purcell
Pouliot-Draisaitl-Yak
Hendricks-Gordon-Pitlick
Gazdic

Nikitin-Petry
Marincin-Schultz
Ference-Fayne
Aulie

The D pairings could go a few ways.. I'd like to see what we've got in the two new boys before deciding officially.

Anyways, looks nice on paper. We've had nice looking rosters on paper before. Can't wait til September.

Hall - Nuge - Eberle (avg 17-21m)
Perron - XX - Purcell/Yak (avg 15-17m)
Pouliot - Arco - Yak/Purcell (avg 15-17m)
Lander - Gordon - Hendricks (avg 9-13m)
Gazdic

Nikitin - Schultz (18-22m)
Marincin - Petry (17-22m)
Ference - Fayne (17-19m)
Aulie

I think Ference - Fayne will be a shutdown pair. No Dman will play 25m a night. I think the TOI will be staggered as usual for D pairings but significantly less than normal teams.

I also think the 4th line will get an increase in TOI compared to last year due to increased depth and defensive capability.

Would be my guess as well. Pitlick and Lander could see time on the 4th in place of Gazdic. Arco tentatively in the 2C spot.

If we get Berglund I'd bump Draisaitl down and run with Arcobello being the extra forward who swaps in and out of the lineup with Gazdic.

Would prefer to avoid pairing Yakupov & Draisaitl and playing people out of position.

Hall RNH Eberle
Perron ____ Yakupov
Pouliot Draisaitl Purcell
Hendricks Gordon

I'm still holding out for the center addition . looking for one of Jokinen, Berglund, Ott, Legwand or Grabovski. I'd prefer two of them so we can send Leon back, however if he looks great in TC and seems to mesh he has the size to make the jump in a Monahan type role. Nurse can be kept down and can play in the WJC and mature just a bit more.

First 9 Games

Hall - Nuge - Eberle
Perron - X - Yakupov
Pouliot - Draisaitl - Purcell
Hendricks - Gordon - Pitlick

Arcobello, Gazdic, Lander

Marincin - Petry
Nikitin - J Schultz
Ference - Fayne
Klefbom - Aulie
Nurse

Scrivens
Fasth

If after 9 games that doesn't work out I think Draisaitl gets sent back and we deploy Arco in his spot, good playmaker and good on the draw and defensively not a bad third line option.

Would not surprise me to see Pinizzotto at the 4rw to start the season and let Pitlick start in the AHL ....MacT will find another NHL center

I'll catch a little heat for this but for whatever reason I like the idea if Lander more than Arcobello as the second line centre. I feel he complements Yakupov and Perry better.

Hall-RNH-Eberle

Pouliot-Gordon-Purcell
Joensuu/Gazdic-Hendricks-Arcobello

Marincin-Petry

Not sure anyone on that second line knows how to pass the puck particularly well.

I think I'm gonna leave lineup predictions until we see if the Oilers can address the hole at 2nd line center. I don't want to think about a roster that features Arcobello (or Lander) in a scoring role.

Hall - RNH - Eberle
These guys have been playing together for multiple years. Hall is Hall, he produces even if he played alone, I'm expecting RNH to bounce back from his shoulder injuries and there isn't better place to do it than with Hall. Eberle is good complimentary winger.

Perron - "Ott" - Yakupov
Very physical line. Ott doesn't have a lot of offensive skills but with Perron and Yakupov he is capable of scoring ~40 points in a season while being great agitator and especially good penalty killer. He drives to the net, screens the goalie and makes room for Perron and Yak. Ott could be had for relatively cheap on a short-term contract so he could be a good stop gap until Draisaitl is ready.

Pouliot - Arcobello - Purcell
A lot of offensive skill mixed with size on wings and defensive abilities. Line which is very hard to play against due to good possession numbers.

Hendricks - Gordon - Lander
Heavy defensive load. Three defensively good players in the same line. Hendricks punishes opposing defenders with his physicality on forecheck. Gordon is arguably one of the best 4th line centres in the entire league.

Nikitin - Fayne
A pairing which I think would work out surprisingly well. Fayne is great defensive-defenceman, Nikitin can concentrate on rushing the puck up and he isn't otiose defensively either. Two great outlet passes, something what we have been missing for many years.

Marincin - Petry
Probably our only pairing from last year which actually worked out. Two guys who compliment each other well. Petry is more defensive-minded than Marincin but he is able to chip in offensively as well. Somebody needs to tell these guys to shoot more though.

Ference - Schultz
Sheltered minutes for Schultz. Ference is good bottom-pairing defender and Schultz can concentrate on being the offensive dynamo on PP.

Man it would suck if MacT didn't address the #2 centre situation and they try Hall at Centre again.

Eakins should be fired on the spot if that experiment is tried again

I really like that second line, real mighty mouse vibe.

I personally wouldn't put Schultz and Marincin together though. No need to make Marincin constantly have to look over his shoulder and be the steadying presence.

Well to be fair to Eakins, at the start of last season with Gagner injured in Preseason, it was an experiment that many fans and management probably wanted to test out and see as well. But after that short experiment, its clearly obvious that the left wing is where Hall excels best at.

With the way that MacT is bringing in defensive help so that guys like Klefbom and Nurse don't have to be rushed, I truly believe that he'll address the centre situation as well so that Draisaitl is not rushed into a role that he's not ready for. Theres still a lot of time and quite a few options left - via the trade market or even signing a guy like Oli Jokinen for a year or two.. so I'm not overly concerned.

I have faith that MacT can get a center (I'm thinking Jokinen) if not, how do we know that Draisaitl can't play well enough on the 2nd line? He did put up 105 points in junior and has NHL size
