Sabres and Sens talking trade?

There have been rumblings that the Sabres and Sens are talking trade.

It's well known that the teams discussed the possibility of Stewart heading to Ottawa, and with the loss of Spezza for a... poor return, the Sense may want to add top 6 talent.

Hodgson comes to mind as a possibility.

What do you think the deal is?

Is there a new rumor? Or are you just repeating the old rumors?

Well, both.

Yesterday a french radio mentioned the Sens were interested in Hodgson, and Murray (Bryan) said he's working on a deal to bring in another NHL forward and that the trade was close to completion.

I think BM mentioned that the other GM had to pick which prospect he wanted, and TM is very familiar with the Sens system.

Plus, there's the rumors around the deadline of a Stewart deal heading to Ottawa, maybe he's also added to the deal?

Hodgson is too good for their available assets and not good enough to entice them to trade their top ones. I don't see a fit. Besides..I think Ottawa should start the rebuild over.

Curtis Lazar! That's one guy I'd love in a Sabres uniform. Stewart/Hodgson can go for that type of a talent/prospect.

Uh, no thanks lol. Basically all of our players are 25 and under, I think we'll stay where we are and not rebuild this rebuild for the sake of rebuilding a rebuild.

Bahahaahahahahaha. Oh man, that's awesome. I can't wait to trade Lazar for Stewart/Hodgson. Let's do it!

I'm with you on your general premise, but perhaps it's a Hodgson-for-quantity trade. (E.g., Hodgson for Wiercioch + Prince + something else.) To be clear, however, I don't think they're moving Hodgson. When Rip Simonick said Hodgson is one of the hardest working Sabres of all-time off the ice, I sat up and took notice. I cannot imagine that fact is lost on Nolan/Tim.

That depends on what BM thinks of the 2.

If he values them like most do (an inconsistent 2nd liner and a young 50 point center with solid potential) I doubt he makes that trade.

If he values them highly though, I could see it maybe being a fit.

I think Stewart to Ottawa with a potential top 6 forward coming back is being discussed. Prince or Puempel maybe.

We have no true sniper prospects apart from.. Luke Adam.

1) The French radio station had no source
2) TM knows our pool so well, he wouldn't hesitate or need time to pick

Just before all the Sabres fans (or any other teams fans for that matter) in this thread start getting excited about the possibility of Lazar on their team, know it isn't going to happen. Murray's press conference yesterday, he was discussing where Lazar fits into the team next year, there's 0 chance he's going to be dealt.

Been thinking about the Sabres trading assets over the last 24 hours

Hodgson's available will depend on Reinhart (and if Nolan keeps him or if Murray forces Nolan to keep him)

Assuming Reinhart sticks, you can move Hodgson over to RW.....except with Gionta signed and Stewart healthy, there is no place for him right now.

Assuming Reinhart doesn't stick, the Sabres have a hole at 3rd center, and if Hodgson doesn't fill it, who does? Brian Flynn? Phil Varone?

I disagree on the latter.

He may be trying to see how any given prospect fits into the Sabres pool.

Also, not all prospects are of equal value. If he says he wants Puempel for example, who's valued higher than Hoffman, he may have to send something back to Ottawa to compensate for that value difference.

Stewart for Prince and Guptil?

I dont see Ottawa giving up what it would take to get Hodgson.

I think if TM values the sense prospects higher, he could do something like what Zip proposed.

Weircoch+Puempel+Pick or other piece
for
Hodgson

I wouldn't do that personally, but perhaps that's because I don't love Stewart as a player.

I don't see Sens trading for Hodgson though.. If they do, no way the trade involves Lazar.

Don't know what it would take or how likely, but Myers' contract would be the kind of thing Melnyk may take on- with $4.1M/year actual money VS $5.5M cap hit.

Send a message via AIM to Richiebottles
Stewart is most likely their target !

Following the rumours of last deadline.

be prepared to pay. A lot.

Tim Murray himself said he wouldn't trade Myers for the 10th overall pick, for example.

You won't like the cost

Hodgson would prolly go for something like Weircioch, (top spec not named Lazar), 2015 1st.

What if the player talked about was Ennis ??????

This is going to be a difficult negotiation with Buffalo since Buffalo probably only wants to sign him to a 2-3 yr contract while he maybe asking for 5 yrs or longer.

If Buffalo is getting any prospects back it would have to be high end ones. Not a collection of prospects similar to wht they already have.
