i think it's really tough to evaluate Leaf defenseman with the last 2 coaches they've had, and many of their forwards only familiar with using 100 feet of ice surface.

2nd+Gilbert vs Franson + forcing Leafs to give Robidas 3M for 3 years instead of having a better Gorges.

if you go to the leafs board...franson is their odd man out who they all want to see traded...some of them saying theyd be ecstatic if he returned a 2nd rounder...they don't like him...they say he's really bad defensively and they say he skatesw poorly ..obviously the offense is great,, but why do wee need that with subban markov and beaulieu.

Who cares about his height? Franson sucks. I'm happy with the 2nd.

And gorges' final act as a hab being slapping Toronto in the face and saying he'd rather go to buffalo... I love the guy sad to see him go...but u know..he'll still be playing 4 years from now, and if we need a 6-7 guy with a ton of heart...he's our guy

err..I think you need to reread the Toronto forums, the Toronto media pieces, etc. etc. Many would say he's the best they have but I don't recall many saying he's great.

As a staunch believer that trading Gorges was a mistake and somebody who really does not like Gilbert as a player, I can definitely agree with this assessment. Since we were intent on making a move, it worked out better getting Gilbert and the pick instead of just Franson.

Gorges = Hab through and through. Saving our butts (massive understatement) even when we discard with the rest of trash. Thank you for this Josh.

Lebrun mentioned today that Colorado also had talks with Montreal for Gorges (after he said no to the Leafs) but they went with Brad Stuart from the Sharks instead

That's pretty telling considering the scouting report on Stuart is "done like dinner".

HABS, AVS GOOD PARTNERS?
Sometimes you have teams that start to become regular trading partners, usually teams in different conferences. Take Anaheim and Toronto, for example, they’ve done a number of deals over the past several years.

Do Montreal and Colorado have the potential to become good partners? They made Monday’s trade in which Daniel Briere and P.A. Parenteau swapped teams. Then a source told ESPN.com that on Tuesday there was talk between both clubs about defenseman Josh Gorges. By then the Avs had already zeroed in on blueliner Brad Stuart from San Jose so they passed, and Montreal sent Gorges to Buffalo.

According to the main board he's better than Markov

I don't think it would have been a "big" mistake, but you would have to commit more years to Franson than we did Gilbert.

Seriously....in a thread title no less. That one bothers me...just WTF is "would of" supposed to mean? How can we misconstrue the contraction of 'have' for 'of'?...boggles my mind. I fear that a couple of decades from now we won't be able to spell at all...

And bonified. Like, Thomas Vanek is a bonified 40-goal scorer.

Anyway, who we would have got from Toronto is a mute point now.

Some would say yes. But others would argue that he transcends the concept of team and is simply the greatest red ever.

Get REAL guys... Gorges played with his heart but in NO way can he be called the "greatest" at defense with the Habs. Robinson i'd put up there but Gorges doesnt even come close to any of the Big Three so lets not get confused here...
