Vancouver-Columbus

To CBJ:
D Chris Tanev
F Hunter Shinkaruk
F Brendan Gaunce
2015 2nd Round Pick
2016 1st Round Pick

To VAN:
F Ryan Johansen

It seems like Johansen and the Blue Jackets are far apart on negotiations on a new contract. With this deal, CBJ adds a rock-sold top 4 defenceman to a D corps that looks very thin. They also pick up the Canucks top offensive prospect, a 2-way 20-year-old centreman, a 2nd round pick in a very deep draft, and a first round pick in 2016.

Canucks missed out on hometown boy Sam Reinhart last weekend so they go out and get another centre from the Lower Mainland in Ryan Johansen. Canucks pay a steep price but it gives them incredible depth down the middle with Sedin-Johansen-Bonino and eventually Johansen-Horvat-McCann. Johansen fits in exactly with the type of player that Benning and Co. are looking for and would be an ideal fit with this organization.

Thoughts? Please be gentle

I think if negotiations went really south Vancouver would be ideal for him and the Nucks.

Something like this could possibly work but im just a neutral fan so i wont speak on value but it looks "fair" given the proposed circumstances.

"As Ryan Johansen enters his 37th hour without a contract, is it panic time in Columbus?"

Also, Columbus had two chances to draft Shinkaruk last year and passed both times.

2015 1st is pretty much off the table for me. Horvat, Virtanen, Shinkaruk, Tanev I'd all make available though.

Why stop there?

To CBJ:
D Chris Tanev
F Hunter Shinkaruk
F Brendan Gaunce
F Jake Virtanen
F Bo Horvat
F Cole Cassels
D Frank Corrado
G Eddie Lack
2015 2nd Round Pick
2015 1st Round Pick
2016 1st Round Pick
2017 1st Round Pick
2018 1st Round Pick

None of these prospects will likely be better than Johansen who might turn out to be a 1st line center, might as well package 'em all up. Only top-5 draft picks become elite players, right? If there's one thing we've learned in this year's playoffs, it's that depth isn't important at all.

Nowhere near good enough. I'm expecting it to cost less in quantity and more in quality:

Horvat
Tanev
2015 1st
2016 2nd

I would laugh if we won the offer sheet. But we have to move out Burrows and some guys that have salary. I don't know what would you do 7M? Too bad he isn't a UFA he would probably take a hometown discount too.

I replied to this and then deleted my comment because I was sure this must have been posted years ago before Johansen's breakout year. But no, you still haven't caught up to the fact that he's well on his way to being an elite center. Your valuation isn't even halfway there. And BTW, our d-group in Columbus is very deep. Tanev is the most valuable asset in that package and we wouldn't have that much use for him.

He's a first line center already. Very good chance to be an elite franchise center.

Though you deserve thanks for making a decent offer.

Trade Tanev, Matthias, and Bonino for futures or package them in the deal to create cap space.

I would imagine they'd want our 1st in '15 instead. It'd be a hard pill to swallow but I think we pull the trigger

Look, you could trade the whole damn Canucks organization and it wouldn't be good enough for Johansen. Plain and simple

I'd look at the Seguin deal as a comparable as far as return for Johansen.

If they can't work out a deal with him & look to trade him, I would be all over it.

We need a player we could build around as our franchise player, and he could be it, and we wouldn't have to tank this year to get him. (which we wouldn't do anyways)

Plus he's a hometown guy.

I'm still skeptical about him anyway.

btw... you should see all the signs. He wants a contract that takes him right to free agency.

I'll wait for you to link a source on that one. All anyone's said is that he wants more than 3 years.

I'd almost do that. The 2015 1st is just a little too scary for me. Although adding Johansen should certainly get us out of the lottery zone.

Horvat + Virtanen + Tanev? Is that good enough?

Looking at the Seguin trade template, it was established solid roster player + very good prospect + slightly lesser prospect + middling prospect for star forward + extra piece.

Tanev + Horvat/Virtanen + McCann/Shinkaruk + Grenier for Johansen + Erixon/Savard

Is that close enough for Blue Jacket fans? Or at least close enough to tweak for a workable deal?

If you really want Johansen, the only answer is an offer sheet Columbus won't match and give up your next 4 firsts. If the Canucks really want him, offer $9 mm x 7 years. I doubt Columbus matches at $9 million per year.

Oh hey, lets formulate a trade were my team gives up nothing we care to keep in exchange for a top line extremely young, big center. You leave out any asset Columbus would want in exchange. Crede's offer is fair and the only one I'd even consider for Johansen, and even then I wouldn't do it as big first line centers don't grow on trees. If that 1st round pick doesn't end up being a top 3 pick next draft then we'd lose the trade pretty hardcore imo.
