There's really no point, some people just refuse to admit when they're wrong.

Obviously only because a deal where he was the centerpiece for Neal fell apart. They even added to PAP, Briere must have crazy value!!!!

He was getting Neal in a separate deal....the second part was 22+23 for 11.

Would have gotten Colorado 1st for something else not named Neal.

Maybe Parenteau + 1st for Dman + another player/pick

At about 1:05 he says "it's the same deal, Neal for our two players" and then talks about how Pittsburgh can get the 23, so obviously Neal wasn't going to Colorado.

My only guess if it wasn't Neal it would have to be Martin, or one of the Pens prospects.

I doubt the pick was for Martin because they had not signed Ehrhoff yet and that would have left the Pens in a bad way defensively.

No chance they would move DP or Maatta for #23.

Well IMO Hornqvist seems like much a better top 6 replacement than PAP now and future to Neal. If the Penguins were considering that deal enough that they'd convey it to Poile in an offer I think his rejection saved them.

EDIT: Obviously I didn't hear interview or read rest of thread.

Brandon Sutter.

3rd line center, potential ROR replacement (on the roster, not quality), and makes a ton of sense with Spaling being part of the Neal/Hornqvist deal.

And yes, clearly Neal was not going to Colorado. That rumored PAP deal is laughably awful and makes absolutely no sense (it may have been a real offer, but it's off the laugh and hang up the phone variety...even compared to what the final deal was) given what is quite clearly heard in that audio.

Whatever the deal was, Rutherford has to be pretty happy how things worked out. If Kapanen was #7 on their board then there's a very good chance he would have taken him at #11.

Yeah, DP was drafted 8th OA and has improved since, he wont be traded for 23rd OA in a weeeak draft. Maatta is better then DP, so definatly wont be him, either.

Rumors here say that it was a separate deal. not neal. It was a precursor to the neal trade that would have happened if Nashville was willing to trade down... For whatever that is worth

Funny a few people argue it wasn't Neal, 22 and 23 for Hornqvist, Spaling and the 11th. During the back and fourth, Rutherford specifically said something along the lines of what if we take the picks out of the deal, would you do it and that's when the deal got made. Rutherford also said in a separate interview that they talked with Nashville about making the deal bigger.

A third line centre to replace our top line winger...? Do tell us more about how that would work.

Sutter seems to be the name that makes sense.

Maybe because the Avs were worried about Stastny walking?

I wonder if the Pens or Avs pulled out? I'm guessing the Pens because Rutherford said the offer was on the table, and he wanted that pick to move up.

I don't care what the video, Roy told reporters it was Parenteau+draft pick (no word, but rumours say 23rd) for Neal.

So Rutherford was going to cut Neal in half and trade him to both teams?

Makes perfect sense.

Previous posters were right, it's mind boggling how people can see video evidence and still insist it's wrong.

Perhaps it was something around Despres.

I guess we'll never find out since both Avs and Pens look to have built their teams for next year, more or less.

Really glad the trade didn't happen, Bleackley seems like a potentially higher upside Sutter.

Despres or Suter seem to be the only choices. Pens probably better off not making that deal.

My guess is Sutter, they were gonna lose Stastny (which they did). And Sutter while unspectacular and with better linemates is a very capable 3rd line center. If I remember correctly the game he played in Denver was one of his best of the season. So a PAP and 1st for Sutter (maybe we add a mid rounder) makes a lot of sense.
