Doesn't matter. Guys with one year contracts going to UFA don't fetch much. Look at what Spezza got, a much better player than Ryan. If he's traded the return will be a 2nd and a B prospect or young RFA who's not part of a teams core. Maybe a 1st from a contender who really want Ryan at the deadline.

We probably will be. But right now Hertl is our main youth. We hope Hertl, Nieto, and Couture will be the main pieces of our forward group in the future. Maybe Goldobin in that group some time soon. We just can't give him up, especially in this "rebuild."

Don't know if it works with Cap, but how about value?
Pass please

Lehner is more valuable to the sens than anything there

What about something around Turris + Ryan for Couture + Hertl?

Someone may still have to add, but I think it's pretty close. The Sens upgrade Turris to Couture and downgrade Ryan to Hertl, get younger, and the Sharks get closer to contending IMO.

The Sharks aren't contending next year. DW already said that AND he said they aren't giving up Hertl.

The Sharks will be contenders, they were last year and as long as they don't overreact to losing to the Kings they could very well be back in the playoffs eliminating the kings.

They signed John Scott. They have not improved their roster AT ALL. They aren't contending.

While it is still early in the offseason, how many free agents are there that will help? I can only think of Del Zotto.

I just don't see the benefit with that deal, and considering our Dear Leader Doug Wilson said Hertl won't be traded under any circumstances this doesn't happen.

I do like Turris tho.

Why would you compare the rw to the c and the c to the rw?

Turris is the most valuable of all four, and the Senators are looking to re-sign Ryan, not trade him. Ryan with an extension is the most valuable of the four.

This deal isn't close at all couture> Turris by a mile and then some. any day off the week. Because of Ryan's resume he is ahead of hertl. But hertl is also 20. A Center big versatile and I believe his ceiling is a lot higher than Ryan and he five years plus younger. This year when surprise me at all If they were around the same goals points etc. Sharks get ***** in this deal

Turris is younger , has a higher career high in points, and dare I say is a better two way player. I think that because we have been hearing Turris's name forever, people assume Turris is older than he is. He's 24 turning 25 in August. He's one of our building blocks.

Still, that Turris + Ryan deal makes no sense, a lateral move at best.

Lateral trades don't happen in the NHL unless a change of scenery is needed for at least one player going each way, and because that's not the case here, it's pointless trying to speculate whether or not A > B or C > D.

In my opinion, there's a decent chance that Murray is going to be desperately trying to fill Jason's absence and thinks there's a way to make it work with the Sharks looking to move established players. I also don't see a scenario where Melnyk is okay with icing a last place calibre team, despite the fact that it is entirely his fault that this is becoming a possibility. He will still expect Murray to assemble a playoff team despite the fact that, as of today, all 29 other teams spend more money than Ottawa.

Nope. Also I will say at 19. Hertl look to miles ahead of Turris when he was 19. It's not even close. If hertl didn't get injured. He likely what I had around the same point total is Turris. Except it took Kyle five years to do it not just breaking into the league

Hertl is a great player. Turris is also a great player though, and is still improving, like Hertl.

No, which is why comparing is stupid.

However, in terms of trade value, once again this board is filled with "Shiny New Toy Syndrome". Turris is Ottawa's best defensive forward, a bona fide upper #2C with the potential to be a #1C.

Hertl is amazing, I loved watching him play in his first year. BUT, he had an injury shortened season, and hasn't played a full year in the NHL. There's a good possibility that Hertl goes on to become a perennial all-star, but that's far from guaranteed right now. So I totally understand that San Jose wouldn't give him up, I think that would be stupid. However, I don't think it's fair to say that "Hertl >> Turris", because that's just not true.
