Actually we went into the year with RNH, Gagner coming off career year, Gordon and 3 players fighting for the fourth line spot. Our center depth was actually decent u til Gagner got his jaw destroyed then **** the bed after he came back, you can't predict that
Actually RNH was hurt, and Gagner getting hurt is exactly what you can predict, because exactly what the team lacked then and now is depth at the most important position of the ice. Your team's in **** shape if Gagner getting hurt results in Arcobello and Hall being your two top centres.
As it is now, if RNH gets hurt, it's Arcobello and... who?
I don't have any idea why we would want Ribero or Roy. Both are older versions of Gagner and one of them is a pos. Why not just keep Gagner if we were to sign either one of these guys. Legwand would be perfect if we could get him for 3 year but i'm guessing he wants 5 years for his retirement contract. Ott would be nice on a 2 year deal. I'd even take Lecavalier if the cost to obtain him is a 6th or 7th round pick.
Doesn't Lecavalier have like 100 years remaining on his contract? No thanks. What is it with Philly and wanting out of a deal they just signed? I don't even know why they did it, Giroux, Schenn, and Couturier is solid down the middle.
MacT slow played the disastrous goalie situation last season and filled the holes admirably imo without giving up much at all. I hope that he does the same with the centre position this season. If he panics like many fans on these boards are, he'll lose in a trade/deal big time. He has to be patient and make a deal that makes sense for the team. If he panics, we're screwed. Intelligent moves sometimes take time. I'm okay with waiting, if that's what it takes. I have confidence in MacT.
Hockey Buddha, I'd like to thank you for always coming in with the right attitude, phrasing and vision at seemingly the best moments.
Legwand is MacT's first real miss of the off season IMO... needed his size and more importantly leadership/two way game... an option better be coming by trade... and even then whoever it is will make more than $3M guaranteed (unless Roy signs cheap but he has his flaws)
We just picked up a couple big bodied wingers and drafted a big C. Size shouldnt be a big factor now.. Legwand had less than 50 combined hits last season and was a minus player for both NSH and DET.
Faceoffs arent that great. 51% with NSH and 49% with DET.
Arco had 78hits in half a season and was over 51% on the dot. Arco had 15 ES points in 41 games.. Legwand had 32 in 83 games. Not sure how much PP either would get considering all the other skilled players we have.
Legwand would definitely be an upgrade over Arco but we shouldnt be losing sleep over losing out on him.
2) Perron, Petry, or our 2015 1st gets moved. I dont see a combination of assets that allows us to retain all of Nurse/Marincin/Klefbom AND the above pieces that would get us a 2C better than Roy/Gagner.
Who's available for some combination of Khaira/Gernat/Simpson and next year's 2nd that is an upgrade on Roy or Gagner?
I think you guys need to target chicago, they are close to the cap. Maybe something around petry+2nd for Sharp+a cap dump !!
Chicago isn't trading Sharp.. and even if they were I'm sure another team could put together a better package. St. Louis is the team to target IMO.. Berglund is the best fit for us. Maybe the Islanders too with their logjam.. I wonder if they'd consider Petry for Nielson?
