[CHI] Kane and Toews Extension at $10.8 mil per

Apparently David Kaplan (@thekapman on Twitter) reported it on the radio? Works for CSN Chicago, saw the rumor floating around Twitter. Waiting for a confirmation.

EDIT: here's one rumor of it

RT @CRoumeliotis: Report: Toews and Kane expected to sign 8-year contract extensions with the Blackhawks, cap hit of roughly $10.8 million, per @thekapman.

If that's the cap hit, I'd let them walk if I was their Gm.

With the cap going up and their relative ages it doesn't surprise me in the least.

No GM wants to be the one who let his Conn Smythe winning stars walk for nothing.

Or at least let the year play out a bit before signing that. Seems like way too much money to agree this soon.

Yikes. Good luck building around that. Let the sell off begin. Have fun with your 2 superstuds and no supporting cast.

They've won two Stanley Cups and at their age probably haven't hit their prime yet with the cap going up. It seems fair to me.

Kane is more of a gamebreaker than Kessel IMO.

Why does any player, unless they think money > winning, take a cap hit like that?

Just hinders the team, really.

Hhmmmm...might hurt them long term with signing other competitive players but we'll see.

20.8M/69M for 2/23 is a bit high but they might find a way around it. Already got Crawford, Hossa, and Keith locked up longterm. Saad will need a raise. And I'm guessing they might lose Seabrook in a few years but maybe he takes a home town discount?

I wouldn't call it a discount by any means, but with the projection of the cap going cup plus their already standing accomplishments, this doesn't seem outlandish. I think I'd personally value them at around 9.5 each all things considered.

This is gibberish.

How in the world would you define what makes Player A "$1.3M better" than Player B?

Both Kane and Toews are a level above Kessel IMO. They are bigger game breakers and difference makers.

Doesn't matter.

It's all about timing.

When the next elite players are up for contracts they'll beat out Toews and Kane.

ok... chicago couldn't let them walk so i guess they had to pay the two even if its 10.8 mill which wont be as bad with the cap going up. plus kane got almost 3 mill more than kessel damn....

If the cap doesn't go up they will have about 24 mil in cap space, excluding Kane/Toews. The cap will probably be around the $72-75 million range next season. So lets say around 30 mil max cap space. CHI still has to sign Saad, Kruger etc. Then there's Oduya. They can do it, but it will be tight.

That Cap hit won't be until next season. So whatever the cap would be around then. Maybe 72-75 Million?

No but those 2 playing together are.

Kane and Toews having the same agent probably isn't good for leverage as far as Stan Bowman is concerned.

They've already won an insane amount together.

Kessel's contract looks pretty good in comparison to Kane's potential contract.
