Carpe diem.

Good is making the playoffs, which this team should do. Very good is making a run at the Stanley Cup, which this team can do.

Three Islanders Keys

It's Preseason Perfection

Although it's only preseason, it was the first time the Islanders won at Nassau Coliseum in nine games, a winless streak that dates to March 1. That's one of many reasons why the home crowd of 10,359 sent the Islanders off with a standing ovation. "They don't count, but the good news is we built some positives," Stirling said.

ISLES SEND GERVAIS BACK

He'll make another run at cracking the Islanders' roster next year, which prompted many of the veterans on the team to shake Gervais' hand and tell him he did an outstanding job in his first NHL training camp.

Since there's a good chance that next yr's nhl season doesn't start on time,do the isles send Gervais to Bridgeport to start the 2004-2005 season?

This is Ryan Caldwell's last yr at college.Maybe Bridgeport gets both young defensemen?

"The Islanders get a new coach (Steve Stirling) but made no off-season moves to stop their regression... " How can the Dailys News have the balls to say this after maybe printing 4 articles on the Isles all preseason, showing they dont pay attention/care at all about them? meanwhile the isles look anything but an 11th seed or worse.

Regarding Predictions:

Daily News - 11
NY Post - 12
Newsday - 3rd in Atlantic

Um...what is everyone's fascination with the Sabres? Inconsistent goaltending, regressed youth, avg defense, no-training camp Satan that will lead to injury, Ruff is still the coach, and add Drury. Drury is not gonna leap this team into the playoffs, nor will new ownership...

predictions are predictions...they are made by writers who 'critique' but can't play the game they write about...so, it's one persons opinion on 23 players on the ice for 82 games...

the biggest part of the preseason: The Isles roll into the regular season on the same page in a 'positive mood' ... that is huge my friends....there is no negativity in the air!

The Post prediction came from Ranger booster club Pres. Brooks,so his predicting the rangers make the playoffs, while the nyi don't isn't surprising

I was disappointed In Ross' article. No mention that Peca's healthy for the first time in 2 yrs after suffering shoulder, knee and wrist injuries. No mention that the Niinimaa addition gives the isles one of the deepest D's in the league. No mention of the isles switching to a trap(which will cut down on the number of shots DiPietro/Snow face).

The predictions are kind of fun because the city media is so far removed from hockey they really do not have as good a read as many of the die-hard fans who are following.

From all the daily articles I have posted here I cannot recall the last time Sherry Ross was at Nassau Coliseum to cover an Islander game. Same for Brooks, but does not stop him from writing the Isles payroll was going to be 20 million this year.

Only prediction that deserves a credible look so far has to be Hahn's because he has been around the team whether we disagree as fans or not. Do not think much of anything Grossman writes. The Daily News has been a big disappointment and the Times has not been doing much either.
