The best news. Now we can argue over the cap hit.

But that's still way better than having them for anything less than 8 more years.

Ridiculous...guess they have no interest in a Cup for the next few years.

Well they had to be signed, but that number is terrible.

This is the best non-Cup-winning Blackhawks summer in a while.

Why shouldn't it? As a Hawk fan, I want to see Stanley Cups, not playoff rounds 1,2, or 3.

And rightfully so...the number sucks. I am glad they signed, but the cap hit is atrocious. Better hope the cap is going up substantially and soon.

It's too much, but the team didn't have a choice.

Stan has a better idea than we do what the cap will be like next year. This had to be done. This is a new era. They completely earned those extensions. The good news is, is that one is 34 and the other is 33 when these finish up.

Good for them they got paid. There is going to be a huge shake-up next year though. Maybe the team can start bringing up low paid young players instead of paying washed up vets.

It's supposed to be a $75 million cap soon, but it wasn't supposed to be $69 million this year. Hoping the speculation is right.

Little high, but could have been worse. Just happy we get to keep them. Have to clear up some space, but isn't that what a lot of you want anyway?

Did you really think Toews and Kane would take paycuts? C'mon. Stan has a plan and he has a good idea what the cap will be. It will only be going up, up, up.

If the speculation isn't right this team is losing a lot of talent. Every $1 mil counts at this point. You are telling me they couldn't take $1 mil less per year each? They took this team for all they could, good for them. I hope there are no rumors about Kane *****ing about not having a good 2nd line C in the future though.

They better have no movement clauses because if they don't and they falter they might not be finishing as Hawks. They just showed that their ultimate loyalty is to the dollar. They just fell in my estimation.

Corey Pronman ‏@coreypronman 5m
Price of UFA win on July 1 was 3.5MM w/o min salary. Last year JT and PK worth on avg about 3 wins this season. Translates to a 11MM value

Corey Pronman ‏@coreypronman 4m
In English, that's fair value for Toews and Kane in the new NHL salary structure.

Corey Pronman ‏@coreypronman 1m
It's arguable Toews could have pulled 11.5+ on a cap hit as a UFA, but probably a team thing that they had the same cap hit.
