You won't find me complaining about this. 8 years of these two?
Stan will figure out how to make it work. It seems like some of you guys have forgotten about the cup win last year. This coming not long after cap hell year #1.
The team will be fine.

We should be celebrating the fact that we have these two for 8 years! Not *****ing about the cost. The cap will go up sooner or later, and it will work out

I think our prospect pool is pretty good, not great, but good. But those guys aren't replacing our current depth anytime soon.
I have done many rosters in capgeek for 2015-16 and 10.5 is rough but still workable. There will be tough decisions to be made but the Hawks should get through it as long as Toews and Kane play like the players they have always shown themselves to be.

You know what else is fun about going to capgeek? Seeing that Toews and Kane, the winningest, most accomplished duo in Blackhawks history is locked up together for another 8 years.

I wonder if Toews has smiled yet?

I wouldn't be laughing if I was him, those two just punched his ticket out of town most likely.

Yeah, that's nice on paper, until they start playing the games in 2015-16. I care about the future, not the past.

I had to see the main boards' reaction to this. Just awesome. Lots of "LOL'ers" and "bye bye Cups" and...well...a lot of the same things I read after 2010 and that awful cap situation. Then again the team has done nothing since then, so maybe they were right.

They sure did, but he's still guaranteed $5M+ every year for the rest of his contract. I'm sure that eases his pain.

I already posted about the difference compared to 2011. We had nothing in the farm system then. Now we have Dahlbeck, Johns, Clendening, Hartman, Morin, Danault, McNeill, etc. All are ready or somewhat close to being NHL ready. There's no need for Pisani's or Brunette's this time around.

Mostly the Hawks will have to trim off the fat. If they can move Versteeg, Bickell and Leddy for picks, this probably accomplishes most of it. But there is Saad's raise coming too.

At that point, you probably need to move one of Sharp or Seabrook. If you move Sharp - you hope Saad can mostly replace what he has brought. Maybe not quite as many goals, but he does bring other things to the table.

Hey, I would love nothing more than to be proved wrong and see a Cup raised in Chicago in 2015-16, or 2016-17...I just can't see it happening.

I'll believe it when I see it.

I hope the Canadian dollar and economy continue to make headway in spite of generally lukewarm forecasts.

I'm too new to have much of a valued opinion around here, but I love the signings. We can't project the cap, we can speculate, but we don't know for sure.

We've been fortunate to have the group we've had for the last few years, but at some point the Sharps, the Hossas, the Seabrooks, etal...well they have to go. The core of this team just signed today and will be here the next 8 seasons.

Some of you are crazy. They can field a team with that hit, stop overreacting because they didn't take the amount you wanted.

Greed wins out over the desire to win.

Oh well, 2 SC's is still quite an accomplishment over a career.... too bad it could have been a dynasty.

It doesn't suck. It's probably well below what they would make next years as UFA.

Everyone needs to remember that it's not just salaries going up- the whole cap has gone up... that's the reason for it. It will be tight for a couple years, but it's going to look like a steal a few years after that. Imagine what Subban or RoR, are going to ask for in UFA. And wait till we see what Stamkos' extension looks like. Folks are ******** about these numbers now, just wait for Stamkos.

It should because of the new Rodgers deal. It will at least be 74-75m which is a huge jump it's going to keep going up and we will be fine.

Send a message via ICQ to DisgruntledHawkFan
This guarantees that we'll be a good to very good team for the next eight years. It also makes it very difficult to be the league's premier franchise during that stretch.

Maybe those two helping him get 2 Cups and make Team Canada earns them some slack?

In a weird way, these contracts and the cap crunch should motivate all the other guys that want to stay in Chicago to go all out next season to ensure they don't get shipped out.

The cap is going to go up how much? Why should I trust projections that are determined by shaky economic forecasts? As of right now the contracts look terrible; they could look good or even more terrible in the future, we'll see.
