Is anyone here have contacts or ways we can get a daily update of camp? I really want to see how all of these young guys are performing.

Sather said in an interview some parts (I would guess the scrimmages) would be open to the public, though nothing has been posted on NYR.com yet. Media obviously has no interest in reporting anything since its still baseball season.

Today (9/12), there will be meetings and, I believe, an off-ice workout.

Tomorrow will be the first on-ice practice.

Pretty exciting stuff...

It's both hard to believe that hockey's back, as well as that it was missed all last year. We're like hanging back waiting for every little bit of info. I'm kind of excited to see what Lundmark and Jessiman weigh in at.

and Poti...no joke. There are rumors that he put on 10 lbs of muscle, not to say that he would use that in front of the net, but interested nonetheless

I heard that too, maybe he'll average a hit a game now.

I guess that means he'll bump into our goalie a little harder now when he screws up defensively in front of our net.

It takes a STRONG MAN to move your own goal post after getting hit

If I remember correctly...

Poti did take-out Dunham on a couple occasions.

All kidding aside, if Poti gained 10 pounds of muscle, then that's a sign the guy's coming here to play. No Leetch to overshadow him (or partner with him). If he stays, he will be the guy expected to bring the puck up ice with Jagr, which is where I think his strength lies.

Also, there have been times in which Poti did play it tough - I think it was the beginning of the last NHL season - and lasated for about the first quarter of the season. We were all pretty much amazed that he had it in him. If the extra size allows him to play more aggressively and he's willing, I think we all should be a bit more content.

So his value goes from a 3rd pick to a 2nd.

I don't see how this fasination with Poti gaining weight does to help his game--unless it means he can stay healthy throughout the season. Poti's success or failure this season will depend on his passing and scoring ability, not his ability to make the occasional hit. If he still holds the puck too long at the point on the power play or if he still tries to make the fancy passes that always seemed to end up on the opposing player's stick, then it won't matter how much he weighs.

Poti's problems stem from a lack of hockey sense on the ice and the inability to position himself properly. Some extra muscle isn't going improve those areas greatly.

Thank you, BR. Those are my criticisms of him. He also lacks poise on PP.

Brooklyn...

I think it's a positive when an athlete uses his year off to make his frame better suited for the sport he plays. I think it tells a little something about the person, and if it is a result of hard work, shows a bit of dedication from that person. Those are positive traits, of which people would not think of Poti in that light. If we're going to see a more aggressive Poti and one that's going to be more focused, then that's a good thing, and I think the added muscle may be a sign that he's getting serious. It's not all that clera-cut, but it may be something.

As for the rest...I actually believe that Poti suffers from the same disease from which Kovalev suffers...lack of an attention span. When they're more involved, they're better. When Poti was paired with Leetch, he was not involved When Leetch left, while it wasn't seen on the scoresheet, Poti's decision-making and puck handling improved as he was more involved with the play. Granted many players looked good during that period and I'm the only one that thought Poti did, but that's what I believe. If he's out there with Jagr, and he's the go-to guy in terms of carrying the puck, then I don't think we'll be too upset with his play - so long as he has a decent defensive partner (which the Rangers actually do not have).

i can't help but laugh at the 'he put on 10-15lbs of muscle during the offseason' crap. every year there are a handful of players that 'bulked up' over the summer and then they weigh in at the same weight, don't look any bigger and don't look any stronger on the ice...

just in the last few years we went into camp being told that lundmark 'bulked up', nedved 'bulked up', poti 'bulked up'...i'll believe it when i see it.

and extra strength doesn't help if you don't use it...

I disagree. Bulk also helps in taking hits also. It could prevent him from future injuries.

lets bash poti for working hard during his long offseason to help the team. Everybody forgets that poti has terrible allergies and probably worked harder than anybody in the league to get to the nhl. No he isn't going to make us forget brian leetch on the ice but the guy is a hard worker. We all kill poti for what he isn't (myself included) but he could have a pretty good year.

Poti has the talent to make the york trade look like a steal for the rangers. Perhaps a year playing on the left side and playing with a defensive defenseman (no i'm not killing leetch it was just plain stupid to pair those two guys together.)

I have a feeling Poti is going to have a great year.

Bash away
