Oilers biggest need

Everyone is so concerned about our 2C

Nobody wants to talk about the elephant in the room,it is not possible to win a stanley cup without a number 1 GOAlIE. We do not have one on our roster or prospect list at this time.
Anaheim ducks are a perfect example, you can have all the talent and depth in the world no goalie no cup.

I think its time everyone gives there a head shake and realize that we are in this for the long haul, making the playoffs is fine and dandy but winning cups is what matters most. We have a long way to go folks.

How's about we give Fasth, and more importantly Scrivens a try first?

Especially considering the amount of games the latter basically won by himself. I think it would be the least we could do.

On second thought, how's about everyone just sit back and remember that our goaltending tandem was Dubnyk and LaBarbera to start last season.

Seriously, just stop what you're doing, hang out for a bit, clear your mind, and then let the information hit you. Dubnyk and Labarbera.

We're sitting on gold compared to that dump stick.

The last 15 years are full of teams that won the Cup without a surefire #1 goalie. The key is that your guy is good enough.

Scrivens is plenty good enough. OP should give his head a shake and realize that a legit #1 goalie will always be buried under last season's defense corps. You need to be well-rounded to win. We are not.

I'm 100% confident in Scrivens/Fasth right now. 2C, and 1D are our big holes right now

Go with Fasth and Scrivens this yr. Trade 1 of them on deadline day. Offer RFA Martin Jones next summer to a 3M+ offer. The Kings will probably take the pick. Don't think they want 11M+ tied up in 2 tenders when they have Quick for another 6+ yrs. The Kings need to extend Kopitar to probably a 9M+ deal.

sorry still not good enough, you can get 2 2c's and still get no cup with two backups, and yes they are backups until proven otherwise

you can be as well rounded as anyone,if you watched the playoffs this year or any other year for that matter goaltending plays a major role in deciding who wins the cup or even gets to the final for that matter.

we have some of the most unproven goaltending in the league right now

Yes Scrivs and Fasth are backups. The Oilers have no long term goaltending. I believe Jones is a very good tender. No team is dumb enough to have 11M+ tied in goaltending.

We took Smyth off their hands so they can have the cap space to acquire Carter for their previous Cup win.

WE need a top defenseman. Nothing against the Draisatl pick but I would've preferred if we picked Ekblad. He's gonna be a stud.

FLA will win a cup before the Oilers.

may need to address the G in a couple of years when (if?) they are a playoff team. they are hoping Broissoit might be the guy (isn't it just like the Oil to pencil in a kid to be a core piece years before he's proven?)

but right now, their greater, immediate need is 2C. Actually, they don't even plan on getting one. their only plan is to wait for Draisaitl.

they don't feel they need anything. just wait for the prospects to, inevitable, fill major holes. because, they always reach their potential, right.

This post is crazy. First of all, how do u even define number 1 goalie? Top 30 in SV%? 60+ GP? 41+ GP? You cant just say "We have no #1 goalie".

After the Dubnyk/Labarbera combo it feels like we have Fuhr/Moog in net now.

I'm ashamed in the amount of faith I once had in Dubnyk.

Give faith to Scrivens. I've got a real damn good feeling about him.

Me too. He reminds me of Dwayne Roloson.

As an outsider i will give it a shot

oilers needs or future do's and don'ts

1) Stop giving fringe nhlers five year deals after having one fair season. Neither Fayne nor Pouliot will live up to their contracts and will either be bought out or traded with the oilers keeping part of their contracts within two years
2) Oilers should have sat down with the Blue Jackets and talk about their big center who they can not sign--he solves all the oilers second line center problems
3) They still do not have a big shut down d-man who can play 20+ minutes a game (both Fayen and Nikiten are bottom pairing guys who should only average minutes a game. For those who attack me on this. We will revisit the comments in Jan/Feb and see who is right)
4) Why are they letting Petry going for nothing
5) Contracts they gave out have hurt them in dealing with Schultz--he is far better then the guys they signed

#1 - A second line center. It's been beaten to death.
#2 - A very responsible d-man who's great at moving the puck. Justin Schultz is nice on the PP but I hate it whenever he's on the ice when the play starts in our zone. We need a guy who is going to be a strength and not a weakness when the play starts in our zone. A guy we can rely on to help us get the puck out of our zone, into the offensive zone and into the net.
#3 - An additional center. - As far as I'm concerned Gordon can play 3rd or 4th line center, while RNH can play 1st line. We're short two guys because not including Leon there isn't anyone kicking around whom I'm sold on to fill those other plugs.

As for goaltending, we've got 2 guys who can start. They aren't elite, but they're good enough to share the workload IMO. When was the last time we had 2 1B starters going into the season? I'm happy with our goaltending. It's now our deepest position. We still got a few ahlers up front and we're still lacking a 1st pairing d-man. So yeah. Goaltending is our deepest position right now.

Thanks for the input!

Agree on most, but I think Mark Fayne is definitely an NHLer, much more so than Derek Engelland and better contactually than Brooks Orpik. You could be right, obviously. I'm thinking he fills up that 15-20+ minute void. I want to see him paired with Schultz, allowing him to do his thing, personally.

Any thoughts on the goalies?
