Tor-dal

To Dallas Stars - Lupul & rights to Franson
To Toronto Maple Leafs - Horcoff, Cole & Oleksiak

Dallas top 2 lines would be as follows

Benn/Seguin/Nichushkin
Lupul/Spezza/Hemsky

Tor takes on two vets with huge cap hits. Frees up space for Dal for any late season acquisitions for cup push.

TOR Left side Depth on D

Gardiner
Rielly
Oleksiak
Finn

Thoughts?

why?

Lupul had 44 points last year in 69 games

and Horcoff & Cole combined had 49 points

Dallas also saves = $4,750,000 in cap space alone, they also get a point producing Right handed shot.

Horcoff and cole. No thank you. You can have Franson for a 2nd though.

No from Dallas. Not interested in giving up Oleksiak in this package.

Big no from Dallas. We don't need a winger made of glass and another top-4 defenseman.

Nice job trying to sneak Oleksiak in there. Dallas says no 10 times over again.

Toronto laughs and hangs up. We are not taking on 5 mill in cap for two players who we don't need and are very inferior to Lupul for Oleksiak, not to mention Franson is included. Oleksiak is good, but not that good.

Franson isnt a top 4. He's a slow defenceman who is awful defensively and needs to be sheltered to be effective otherwise he can cost you games. Sounds attractive huh?

As for the proposal, I'd love to give away Franson, especially if we get Oleksiak in return, but the rest of the package for Lupul is awful and easily a deal breaker so I'm gonna pass.

I think Franson can be a #4 if paired with the right guy. I still think he had lingering health issues last season as in the lockout season he was lights out.

Franson is good playing sheltered minutes. Good on pp, pretty physical but his mobility holds him back (and may always).

2 Capdumps + Oleksiak for Lupul + bottom pairing pp specialist?

What has Oleksiak proven to warrant such a return? I rather go after Sustr.

I think pairing him with a good skating defensive first D, someone like Hamhuis, could work wonders. I don't think he's nearly as bad as the vast majority on this site

I'd love to get Oleksiak but this is a ton of dead cap hit to absorb...

Lupul is good, but Oleksiak is our best chance at a top pair D-man. Dallas's offense is good enough, we don't need to be giving up our best D prospect to improve it short-term.

I'd argue its really strong but not strong enough to go tick for tack in their division

their divsions top 6

Chicago

Sharp/Toews/Hossa
Saad/Richards/Kane

St. Louis

Steen/Stastny/Tarasneko
Schwartz/Backes/Oshie

Colorado

O'Reilly/Duchene/Landeskog
Tanguay/MacKinnon/Iginla

Minnesota

Parise/Koivu/Pomenville
Vanek/Granlund/Niederreiter

Dallas

Benn/Seguin/Nichushkin
Cole? Horcoff? Roussel? /Spezza/Hemsky

IMO Dallas has a big hole on LW on their 2nd line. And Hemsky is solid however he's the weakest 2nd line RW of the contenders in that division. Their 2 centres are as good as anyone in the division.

Lupul is a ppg winger when healthy. He would capture what Heatley was able to accomplish as his winger.

Dallas has to go toe-to-toe with these division teams. Not to mention SJS,LAK & ANA. The goal is to win a cup and whoever comes out of the west has the best bet to win it all.

They won't give up Oleksiak, he's going to be a solid top 4 defenseman and he has top pair upside. Lupul when healthy is very good, but they can't have 3 guys who are going to be injury prone playing on the same line. Anyway, they don't really lack a LW because they believe Brett Ritchie will most likely play on the 2nd line with Spezza/Hemsky and their 3rd line is unbelievably solid with Rousell-Eakin-Garbutt playing together (Look up their stats last season). I fully believe they have a very very good top 9 and they have good vets playing on their 4th line (Cole/Horcoff/Peverley?) so they are good offensively. Anyway I don't really see why they do this, they need a legit top 2/4 defenseman and unfortunately Lupul/Franson aren't that.

Btw Hemsky may seem like he's a risk but he was absolutely amazing with Spezza, they complimented each other so well when they played together. I believe that next season, he will produce more than a large part of the 2nd lines you posted.

Not interested in giving up Oleksiak in a deal that looks like this. We'll take our chances with what we've got on the roster and in the minors.

I'd do this as a Leaf fan. Don't think Dallas does, though. It's not like they need to shed cap.

No way from the leafs pov. We're not taking on 2 cap dumps and giving up an offensive dynamite (if healthy) in lupul.

Seems too easy to pass from the other side. as a fan standpoint you see Lupul trashed because of injuries ans Franson trashed because of his play. Wouldn't expect any opposing team to approve a realistic (not saying this is) trade with our players; goes against code.
