That's like saying "Because I have millions, it's ok that I spent $22,000 on a cell phone". Umm, no you're still an idiot if you do that.

That analogy is terrible.

Roster spots still need to be filled with those spots. Plus Hubs and Bjugs will be up for raises and we need them to earn big ones. Barkov the following year.

I called it! I'm really happy we got him for the extra year.

For anyone complaining about the $$$$ welcome to the post 2013 lockout world, where Brooks Orpik can get 5 million a year.

Well, give me a good alternative then. In your opinion we should have kept the same roster as 2013-2014? Guess what, every team has to overpay in free agency. The Florida Panthers have to overpay ON TOP OF THAT to get free agents here. There's no "hometown discounts". We have to take what we can get. Of course it would be nice if we didn't sign Bolland to such a large amount of money, but that's what it takes man. I'm sorry if you don't know that already.

Not a fan of the $$$ for Kuli unless he can prove this year he is worth it.

I wonder how much of the big cash handout was about the extra year. I'm really surprised we got it, I thought for sure he'd test the free agency market the first chance he got.

I like this deal.

Eats 1 year of UFA, and the way some defensemen got paid this year in FA, it's a solid deal.

Just got to cut down on mental lapses.

I think a large part of the overpayment appears to be for what he would be getting on an open market for that third year.

I'm a fan, to be honest.

Don't think he deserves that much AAV... but if you imagine what this team's defense was like last year and remove Kulikov... it was not only bad but historically bad IMO. I think he and Gudbranson are important pieces for our growth and unless they're being traded for a better player, they're pivotal.

I like it, maybe a slight over payment but still a decent contract, now we just need to move 2 of our vet forwards to clear some cap space and try to get a cheap blueliner and a top 6 RW.

Meaning it's for potential. Kuli hasn't proven enough yet to have anyone overpay him in free agency.

We don't spend, people are worried. We spend, people get mad. Come on guys.

We will still be left with 3-4 million in cap space after everyone is signed.

This is big money for Kuli. He finally got his payday. He better show he's worth it.

Hmmm. Not convinced, but what is done is done. We'll see how he performs this season. My expectations have increased substantially for him.

Panthers are now 12th in payroll. That is without Ekblad and Hayes signed.

This is basically what I expected the team to sign him for. I just really hope over the next couple of years he shows us the Kulikov that amazes us a hell of a lot more than Mr. Turnover and Mr. Let's Take A Bad Penalty.

This is really incredible. I noticed yesterday we were above the Leafs! It's insane to see that, it really is.

Yep. We're spending that's for sure.

This signing should not have been above $4m imo.

Most disappointed with the contract for this RFA signing so far.

Hoping the new coaching staff can take our player's games to the next level. Kuli was a lot better after being benched. He still had some inconsistencies, but overall was still better. One game in particular (I forget which one exactly) he was an absolute beast. Want to see more of that Kuli.

If Kulikov was a UFA this year, given the state of the cap and the lack of defensemen, I guarantee you he's going to make 5+ for short term. Most importantly the former point... the cap inflation does not mean teams will have an easier time signing players.

I think the most important thing here is that Kulikov was not given more than three years.

But back on that whole cap thing... consider Bolland's contract. 5.5 on Bolland is laughable, but I don't think 5.5 today is the same as 5.5 3-4 years ago. More like... 4-4.5.

Um, how about not overpay for Bolland and get a reasonably priced third line center for a reasonable term?

Just because we can spend, doesn't mean we should be dumb with money. Tallon has a reputation for being a stupid spender and I tend to agree with that.

Nikitia Nikitan says hello. Top 4 D-men are expensive. Especially those with upside.

Players getting paid in UFA have at least one, if not two, good seasons under their belt.

Kuli hasn't reached that level yet, someone would give him decent money, but nothing Niskanen/Orpik crazy.

Eh, I don't know if Nikitin is the best example, especially for a team that was desperate for defensive help.

Players getting long term deals do.

In a defensively starved market with an inflated cap, teams will pay guys like Kulikov. Even if he hasn't earned it.
