Pretty cool piece on NHL.com about this.

I personally think he was one of our best signings this off season. Most of us were pretty worried with Ellis as our backup. Now we have, what I believe, a solid backup at a very good price for the next two seasons.

I also really liked the signing. He's always been very solid when I've had the chance to see him play. Ellis was just scary at the end of last season. Even with this defense.

Until you can get a decent cafecito at the arena you will never win over the Cubans.

I was sooooooo happy with this signing. I know he's better than Ellis.. I'm actually looking forward to seeing him play.

Disagree.

I think this was THE best signing offseason.

I had no idea there was actually a Cuban player on hockey. I though I was the only Cuban who watch this thing. I hope one day I can see a Cuban Rocket. lol.

I'm sure there are plenty of clubs in South Beach where you can see a Cuban rocket.

NHL.com would have something like "THE CUBA CRISIS" if there was a cuban closing in on winning the rocket...

Its not like Montoya's going to be scoring any goals, I think we're safe.

Not only Cuban player, but Panthers used to have Colombian player in team.

I just love a journeyman backup named Al.

Can he wear a plaid suit on game days and help Lou present some "tools for the game" or something?

just to be serious for a second, as a cuban american who has defied my culture and heritage by loving hockey more than any other sport, I can confidently say that the cuban community couldn't care less that the panthers signed a cuban-american player

Also Cuban-American and I agree. When I try to talk to my stepdad about hockey he just thinks it's nonstop brawling on skates. I feel most Cubans will dismiss it as a Neanderthal sport. Which is funny since Miami has embraced Am. football and I know Boxing is popular in Latin communities.

If baseball, a really popular sport in Cuba, doesn't appeal to Cubans in Florida, I doubt hockey will.
