Nolan's grievance - NHLPA files official grievance

Here is todays story from the Globe and Mail .

Nolan's grievance

The National Hockey League Players' Association yesterday filed a grievance against the Toronto Maple Leafs on behalf of veteran forward Owen Nolan. The move was in response to the Leafs' refusal to honour Nolan's $5.6-million (U.S.) option year in his contract.
The Leafs claim they don't owe Nolan a cent because team doctors found Nolan fit to play last October. The Leafs believe Nolan, who suffered another setback with his knee that required surgery this summer, hurt himself during the lockout.

The Nolan camp has claimed the forward's latest injury is related to knee damage he suffered at the end of the 2003-04 season, and that he was never cleared to play in the fall of 2004. The NHL has told the club that no matter what happens with the grievance, Nolan's salary will not count toward this year's salary cap.
