Boston - Toronto

Nazem Kadri
Jake Gardiner

Reilly Smith
Torey Krug

Boston unload two RFAs they probably can't sign and get nice replacements for them, a mobile D-man and a playmaking center . Leafs get a power play specialist, a nice winger, and clear up the logjam at center.

Let me know what you think

yeah I think Gardiner's contract is going to be a steal very soon. If he reaches his potential (and it could be as soon as this year) he is going to be considered a top top dman in the NHL.

Kadri already could be a 1C we'll have to wait on that but he has incredible skill and people should believe the hype.

this doesn't make any sense.

Leafs don't do it because they are giving up more value.

Bruins don't do it because this makes their cap situation way worse, they have a log jam at center, and they're very solid on defense. Krug and Smith shouldn't cost more than 5 million dollars combined to sign for next season.

Kadri isn't a 1st line centre, sorry to burst your bubble.

And a guy that has to be sheltered to be successful is far from being a top 10 d-man.

They're similar in points output last year, but it doesn't help Toronto. We already have a solid powerplay, and Gardiner is a part of that - we just signed him to a great contract, too. There's no logjam at center for the Leafs here, as some of these guys will simply move to the wing. I can only see Kadri & Gardiner being traded as part of a trade for a young #1C or #1-2D, but never together.
If Boston can't sign them then it's likely they can't afford Kadri and Gardiner, either.

Boston would need to upgrade their offer to make this tempting for the Leafs.

Yeah, this clears up Toronto's logjam at center while simultaneously making Boston's logjam at center much worse. Nothing against Kadri or Gardiner, but we just don't need them.

Youre right, Kadri is an elite 2nd line C. BUT you're wrong about Gardiner

Gardiner played the 2nd mostminues on the leafs , only behind phanuef ... how is that sheltered?

Who said he was a top 10 dman!?

Gardiner played against some of the softest minutes in the league amongst d-man. Go, take a look at his QOC, he was sheltered.

Also , the poster said Kadri COULD very well be 1st line C, which is true. No one said he is a 1st line C right now

He said "already could" it's hard to understand such a statement, his words are contradicting.

If gardiner can play that many minutes and do really well, I'm satisfied. The transition to the 1st pairing will be expected this year because he handled the previous task so well. This mans skating and puck possession is amazing though ( just watching him play even against limited ice time against big stars)

Gardiner > Krug

Kadri > Smith

Why do the Leafs do this?

Both teams decline. Boston can sign Krug and Smith and both won't cost us more than $6 million combined and even that's pushing it. Neither of them have any leverage this offseason and both cannot sign any offer sheets. The Bruins also have a logjam at Center and getting Kadri makes no sense as well. We also have no need for Gardiner as we have a surplus of defensemen (9 to be exact). This move also doesn't make sense for the Bruins based on our cap situation. Toronto declines because they are giving more value than they are receiving.

I dont understand why tor thinks kadri>smith or gardiner>krug. Krug and smith both had better seasons than kadri and gardiner. You could argue krug was sheltered, but gardiner was just as much so. Smith also faced much tougher competion then kadri (due to being on bergys line) amd he still produced more.

Bottom line
smith>kadri
Krug>gardiner

Some delusional Boston fans. I guess thats what Toronto always gets on these boards.

Boston would easily do this, while the Leafs would easily decline this.

The irony of this quote gave me a heart attack.

Good luck signing stamkos in the offseason

Smith has had how many good years in the NHL? Smith is more of a product of his line mates, where as Kadri helps his line mates produce.

Krug and Gardiner are close, nothing significant.

This deal favours Boston ainec.

Yes nice insinuation, makes you sound real smart.

I agree most Leaf fans on here can be ridiculous, but if you don't think this deal is ridiculous, not sure what to say. Kadri > Smith by quite a bit, Gardiner > Krug by a little, but probably alot in the future.
