Marc Staal Rating

What do you guys think Staal's rating will be? Hes a solid d-man, he looks NHL ready now, however I say 1 or max. 2 more seasons before NHL. I think 6.5A would be a fair rating, or 7.5C maybe?

I would say 7.5 B

I think he's most likely to be a strong #3 defenseman. A 6.5A makes it seem like he's a 3rd pairing guy, but I think he has more upside then that. He seems fairly safe as far as prospects go, but doesn't have that elite skill of a top guy.

7.5B (not huge upside [7.5], but should be a 'safe' bet to be an NHLer [B])

He was a NYR pick though, so HF will give him a 5.5C

To be honest these ratings have always been all over the map. And it's impossible to truly compare one teams players to anothers as there seems to be no independent central authority to see that they are fairly applied. As far as Staal he is a very very important prospect and I'd put him in our top 3.

He needs to bulk up alot for his frame, but maybe another year then some time in Hartford he'll be ready

i'd give him a 7.5 b+

Interestingly, though...

...apparently his play at his first camp is forcing the Rangers to keep him up with the big boys longer than they had originally thought they would (according to the NY media). While I still expect him to go back to juniors, perhaps this is an indication that they've done something right and he might eventually move into the range of 8.0-8.5 points B-A rating?

Hey, it's well documented that I've been an optimist since the trading deadline moves 18 months ago.

Well considering how the draft lottery went we were very fortunate that he lasted long enough for us to be able to move up and draft him. I like the way our defense projects out to be in the next 2 to 5 years.

i could see him perhaps moving into the 8.0B range if he has a real nice year in juniors...unless he uncovers some offensive potential though he probably wouldn't go higher than 8.0 in terms of ceiling. might be more likely that his 7.5C rating is bumped to B or A
