Most rosters are pretty full at the moment. I'm betting most of the offers he is getting are two way deals, and he is still hoping to find a one way deal.

That, or he is looking for a little term with that paycut, and all the deals are for 1 year.

What I do not understand is how people become so incredulous that players with a recent history of suckitude are not signed. Happens every year, what's the shocker?

Being a Rangers fan I can answer that one...

Money... Money... and oh, Money?

In all honesty he is a bit of a hotshot and doesn't want to take a very small salary.. if I'm him you gotta take the contract and be more motivated to play better. Someone will absolutely take a flier on Del Zotto, but it's going to take a while, maybe before training camp (watch him sign by the end of the day today).

I have a weird feeling he ends up on the Devils though. Call me crazy.. but I just got that feeling.

Because he hasn't come to an agreement with a team...

I don't know why posters on hfboards think that just because a player isn't signed that all 30 teams have no interest.

Torts, AV, & Trots in a 2 year span and still hasn't found a coach or a system he can work in.

+

Isles and Calgary know they can put the screws to him financially because no one else needs him.

He just isnt a good player. He has moderate offensive abilities but is awful in his own zone. He stuck around of a bit when he was younger because teams were curious to see how he would "develop" however teams are now realizing he isnt really good enough in any area of his game to bother going after.

He will be signed by a team looking for roster depth at the start of the year but I wouldnt look for much from him.

He will get a deal once he comes down to earth and takes a paycut.

Most of the above.

Just surprised that Howson, who supposedly gushed to want him, went from all that to 'meh'

I'm sure a lot of teams would like to give him a "prove it" deal at a reduced rate, and he's holding out for something more significant.

Let him wait. And of course he is going to say there is interest out there just so he can try to get a bidding war, which isn't working.

The kid has a hot head and no ability, a terrible combination. I am not sure how long he will wait but I would expect his agent will tell him to make a decision before the season starts.

I hope not. We just cleared up our logjam on defense and we already have Zidlicky and Gelinas to provide an offensive touch from the blue line. Plus we have Severson coming up within the next couple of years. Nothing against MDZ I just don't think we need him.

Honestly it wouldn't surprise me though considering we might not have many options if we get a couple of injuries on defense. Right now Harrold is our 7th. I'm guessing Helgeson or Scarlett would become our 7th if we had a couple of injured players on defense. Santini and Severson probably aren't ready yet. Santini is still in college anyway.

That or he will hold fast, someone somewhere will get hurt and that team will meet his demands

I have a feeling a team will sign him to a cheap contract and he will have a good season and all other 29 teams will be kicking themselves
First, you overrate Date of Birth. You don't get candy for being young in the NHL and simply possessing offensive abilities (rarely shown by MDZ) that thousands of players outside of the NHL do. You get rewarded for "not struggling" on those other non-sexy aspects of the game that you overlook in your assessment...and which are typically glossed over by many here.

Second, when the clock says we're less that 24 hours from August, and a guy is not signed, it typically comes down to Negotiations 101. Namely, as you state, he believes his worth is higher than the market deems fair. Likewise, he probably wants some assurance of playing time. Same with veterans like Morris, etc. Likely some harsh reality time for these guys.

Holding out for the money he wanted worked out for Hainsey last year, but more often than not the player has to accept the realities of the market place.

Yup 1 or 2 years of Del Zotto is still better then 2 years of KFQ.

Nope. We would have passed on drafting him. Doubt if we would sign him with our current log jam of good D prospects.

I laughed so hard at the pain of Red wing fans this offseason when 3 or 4 of the biggest FA dmen turned them down and they had to resign quincy to that kind of money . It was a sad offseason for you guys.
