More of a 3rd liner at this point but they wouldn't have to give up any assets. He could provide additional depth and be a veteran mentor.
That's what I was just about to type. Good mentor for young guys, they give up nothing and could probably lock him up for 1 year @ $2M or so. Like you said, maybe more of a third liner these days but if given 17-18 mins in a more prominent role than he had in ANA he could probably hit 40-45 pts and bring the extra leadership.

I don't know about 40 points, but he'd certainly bring leadership to any team. His play fell of pretty hard sadly .

Sutter makes no sense whatsoever. Yes he's a centre, but he's a 3L centre (albeit a pretty good one)...but he falls considerably short on the offensive contributions required of a 2L centre. Not that great at face-offs either.

He's got good size, has hit 40 points already as a rookie, in a more offensive role and could be pushed down the line up as Draisaitl progresses. Sounds like a perfect fit but I'm more than fine if the Oil don't pick him up lol!

Bob Murray already stated Koivu won't be brought back for this season.

Stajan is incredibly average in every way, Vinny has a NMC and his contract sucks, Desharnais is tiny and Sutter would be inexplicably expensive.

That's mainly because of the scrubs he constantly plays with. He's not talented enough to make those around him better, but if he's playing between two wingers who have even a little bit of skill, his offensive level is raised.

Another plus that nobody seems to notice about him is that he is a saint. Only had 6 penalties in 81 games last season, and 2 in 48 games the year before. In 2009-2010 he only had 1 minor penalty while playing in 72 games. While not at ROR's level, but for a guy who is very responsible defensively, that is amazing.

I would rather see Skille and CMac demoted to the AHL, freeing up roster room, them see Bailey moved for a 2nd.

IMO he should only be dumped if he is outplayed in camp and blocking a younger, hungrier, more productive player.

I really don't see Nashville moving Cullen this season, at least not until the trade deadline. He's going to be needed on the wing, probably with our rookie center Jarnkrok, to help mentor him and help the rest acclimate to Peter Laviolette's new system, since he's played in it. He played much better for the Preds last year on the wing than at center. Not sure he could handle a 2nd line C role at this stage of his career.

Mike Fisher would be great if you could pry him away from Nashville

Mike Fisher is out for at least half to maybe a whole season with a ruptured Achilles' tendon. Before the injury, there was already talk of him retiring after this season, so I don't see him waiving to go to Edmonton if he does get healthy.

Thanks for the info, haven't really been paying attention to hockey this off season. So now is it almost a guarantee that he'll retire at the seasons end?

No it was rumored is all... But it would not surprise me if it happened.

Sutter makes more sense long term than he does short term. He'd be a great long term solution as a 3rd line center behind RNH and Draisaitl.

But you are right. His offense isn't up to par. People like to point to his 20 goal 40 point season... but that was 4 years ago. That seems like more of an outlier than anything. He's been a remarkably consistent 30~ point producer the 4 years since. Could he do better with better linemates? Maybe. But at no point in his career outside of that outlying season, (junior included) has he produced the offense to suggest he could be a #2 center in the NHL.

All that being said. I'd be interested in him... I just wouldn't be interested in him in a deal that involves a guy like Perron going back. So doubt there is a deal there to be made unless the Pens were really just wanting to clear salary.

Montreal wont win a cup with Desharnais as a #1 C! They need to trade him to give Eller/Galchenyuk bigger roles.

Don't you think a good time took for 2nd line Centers would've been at the beginning of the summer when a ridiculous amount of 2nd line centers were available for trade/FA?

Before they all signed in Nashville because there's no taxes? I'm not exactly bawling over missing out on Jokinen and Ribeiro. That's just throwing spaghetti at the wall and hoping something sticks.
